StreamFab for Windows StreamFab Abnormally Exiting (Closing)

Have not seen anyone else report anything like this, so if anyone else is having this issue or knows what's going on, please let me know if there is a solution to this. Thanks.

    Issue: Started 12/10/23
    Windows OS, all patches applied.
Win64 Version 6.1.5.3 of Stream fab.

    Was on 6.1.4.9, but upgraded to 6.1.5.3 on 12/7/23 13:50, no issues 12/7, 12/8, 12/9.
Cleared all caches and logs and temp files reinstalled 6.1.5.3 at 7:30am 12/11/23. Did not fix issue.

ISSUE: Streamfab ABnormally exits (closes the app, same behavior as clicking the x in the upper right corner of the app) at various times during its use. No other applications/programs on my PC have this issue.

    Tested with Amazon:
When just browsing around on Amazon on the home page to various 'my stuff' items.

    For Midsomer Murders:
During getting the series' seasons and episode data after clicking on the series.
During choosing the season and episode(s) after they are presented.

This last one is the one I ran and captured logs for:
But mostly happens during the Setting up Download Configuration pop up box in the Download page.
If it gets past this first pop up box, then it goes on to successfully analyze the episode and download it.
If not, it always shows the [Fatal] error (see below) in the log, before exiting.

    Was using:
Will & Grace Season 2 (the original one, not the Will & Grace('17) one) for testing.

Does not happen on every episode:
runs successfully for 4 episodes, then exits.
runs successfully for 1 episode, then exits.
runs successfully for 12 episodes, then exits.
runs successfully for 1 episode, then exits.
runs successfully for 2 episode, then exits.
    etc., etc.

Get these errors when it exits while on the Downloading page (extracted from attached logs, in case some users can't open the logs):

2023:12:11-04:48:07 0x000024e4 [Fatal]: Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50c0c) with this library (version 0x50c04)

2023:12:11-04:54:54 0x00006c3c [Fatal]: Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50c0c) with this library (version 0x50c04)

2023:12:11-05:03:40 0x000046a4 [Fatal]: Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50c0c) with this library (version 0x50c04)

    After 7:30am 12/11/23 re-install:
2023:12:11-07:46:41 0x00003d00 [Fatal]: Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50c0c) with this library (version 0x50c04)

Logs containing the corresponding messages above are attached.

I agree the culprit is an out of date Qt5Core.dll file. For me, though, it seems that the install would have updated it had something else not been preventing it.

I tried Jack’s method, but when I got to reinstalling version 6.1.4.9, my Qt5Core.dll File Version (5.12.4.0) and Date modified (3/3/2022) had not changed, so I suspected something was preventing the update.
On a whim, I tried to delete Qt5core.dll -- I know, reckless and not advisable, but it did tell me could not delete because it was in use by another program. The program was StreamUpdate.exe.

Somewhere along the line StreamUpdate.exe got stuck and was always running, once I killed that process and reinstalled 6.1.4.9, the File Version (5.12.12.0) and Date modified (11/9/23) had changed, which is correct.

I then offline installed 6.1.5.3 overtop of 6.1.4.9 and only the date changed (12/7/23 – release date of 6.1.5.3).
Once the Qt5Core.dll was properly updated for me, version 6.1.5.3 was working well for me. I was able to successfully download season 4 of Will & Grace (27 episodes) all in one go with no abnormal terminations.

Qt5Core.dll is located wherever you install StreamFab.
For me, this is: C:\Program Files\DVDFab\StreamFab
Qt5Core.dll for StreamFab is located here, scroll down to it right click it and pick Properties to check File Version and Date Modified.

    That having been said:
Here’s what I think you should might try first, hoping that it’s the easiest way based on the previous rationale:
    1. Open Task Manager
    2. Look for program StreamUpdate.exe – was preventing any update to Qt5Core.dll for me.
    3. Right-click End task.
    4. Re-Install 6.1.4.9 offline (see above how to check if the right version of Qt5Core.dll is installed).
File Version should now be 5.12.12.0 and Date Modified should be 11/9/23.
Not sure this step is really needed. May just be able to reinstall 6.1.5.3 overtop of 6.1.5.3.
    1. Offline install 6.1.5.3 overtop of 6.1.4.9 (or 6.1.5.3 as mentioned above).
    2. Check that File version is still 5.12.12.0 and Date Modified is 12/7/2023.
    3. Start Streamfab and test.

I hope this helps you mattmuck

I guess I'm going to check Task Manager for StreamUpdate.exe and kill it before I do any future updates.

Thanks to Jack for pioneering this and to Cats4U for proving insight into the issue.

I'm experiencing the same issue and see the same incompatible Qt library messages in the logs.

Thanks, mattmusk, good to know I'm not the only one. Had you reported this before, if so, sorry for the repeat.

No. I hadn't reported it yet. I initially thought it was on my end due to some router issues but after reading your post I checked my logs and see the same error. The Qt incompatible library error message generates before every crash so that appears to be the culprit. The app works but often crashes after downloading a movie or episode.

Yes that's my same situation, mattmusk. Thanks.

Forgot to list above, but I'm on Win11 Pro.

jpp72, other forum members or Mona, any ideas on what might be causing this.
What does that Qt incompatible library error message mean?
Anything beyond what I've already listed above, that we could try?

            Thanks.

Read this message thread https://forum.dvdfab.cn/forum/softwa...hes#post432939 and see if you can find the mismatched qt5core.dll files. It could be OneDrive as it was for Jack or it could be another program that uses QT5. You'll need to track it down just like Jack did.

I would not do that. The path could be needed by another program. Just follow Jack's example as listed in the other thread. Basically he did a reinstall of the offline latest SF update which corrected the wrong qt5core.dll version (and probably all the other qt5 files, as well).

I'm 99% sure that if you would have installed 6.1.5.3 from the beginning rather than 6.1.4.9 you would not have seen the constantly running StreamUpdate. That program controls the popup that tells you that you don't have the latest version of StreamFab and offers to download and install it for you. I hate that popup and never use the online update. I actually have an automated watchdog program that immediately shuts StreamUpdate down as soon as it activates.

Ya i didn't mention this in my other thread and maybe i should have.

I also had the StreamUpdate prevent me from deleting the Qt dll and i had to end the task. I am juts so used to killing tasks that lock files (especially when using the amazing File Locksmith from PowerToys) that it didn't even cross my mind to do mention it.

I have marked your post as the answer. Thanks for providing the details for any other user that experiences this issue.

                              Cats4U:

Thanks again for helping to solve my problem. I tried to send this as a private message to Cats4U, but it would not go through, so hope you come back to read this sometime.
Sorry to anyone who is not interested in this.

                              Above you wrote:

I agree with you I never want to use the online update and find the pop up reminder for new version updates every time I start StreamFab an annoyance. I can in in the StreamFab forurm when a new version is released, and most of the time that's on Thursday.

I'm interested in how you have automated the watching for and shutting down StreamUpdate as you mentioned above
I thought about some type of batch program that runs in a schedule task, but wasn't sure what to put in the batch program. Also, I did shut off StreamUpdate in Windows settings startup, but don't think that will catch the one that starts when StreamFab starts, or If I would accidentally pick it from the StreamFab drop down.

So, anything you could tell me about how you do this or anything you feel comfortable sharing with me so I can implement the same, would be greatly appreciated.

                              Thank you again.

                                KurtH3,
I currently have my private messages turned off due to prior abuse from some forum users. Rather than get them banned I just shut off the ability for them to privately abuse me. I may turn on PM again sometime in the future.
I use a program called Process Lasso. It is basically a Task Manager on steroids. One of the tools it offers is a process watchdog. It has many functions including turning on or off different processes based on several different factors.

Process Lasso is a pay program but there are several free programs that will also do the job. Google "windows process watchdog" for some possibilities including Process Monitor by Sysinternals which is released by Microsoft.
You could probably also use a batch file but that is working at the Program level and I prefer to deal with processes at the OS level.
