    write speed problems

Hi. I have a problem with the write speeds with DVD Fab. I'm using V6.0.2.2. I've selected a write speed of 2.4, and this works fine when I'm burning to a double layer dvd. However, when I burn to a single layer dvd, it uses the fastest burning speeds. Nothing I've tried helps, I've even selected "slowest" as my write speed, still uses fastest speed. And it's not my computer, I have three computers, it happens on all of them. Any help will be much appreciated.

Please attach a burn log. The Help Us Help You document will tell you how to find it.

Also try the "Setting Up ImgBurn and DVDFab to Work Together" link in my sig, a lot of members use this method.

      Also, welcome to the forum.

I'm not using ImgBurn. All I have is DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, along with RipIt4Me. Would there be an advantage to me downloading ImgBurn?

You'll realize a huge benefit with Img as you are experiencing difficulties with burn speeds and VSO...the default burn engine.
You say you are selecting burn speeds within the Fab app, correct?
If this is the case, you have only 3 options for burn engines: VSO (default), Nero and Img.

Img will afford precise control over both the selected burner and the selected media. It offers the user great configurability and reliability and is the best darn burn utility on the planet...my opinion and many others.
BTW, Img's author is LUK! (author of the legendary dvd decrypter).

There are some great video tutorials by troy512 that will help you out with links, setting up Fab and Img and setting up Auto-Write Speeds:

Thanks. I have downloaded and installed ImgBurn, will set up according to your suggestions. By the way, where is this "Help Us Help You" doc that was mentioned?

Well, it's burning (on other puter), but got this msg:
                  Write speed miscompare! - Wanted 3,324 KB/s (2.4x), Got 5,540 KB/s (4x)
So still not burning at my desired rate of 2.4.

Please post a burn log, it might help to see the problem and better yet to see the drive you're using, if it might need a firmware update which might be the problem I suspect but that's just a guess on my part.

Hate to appear dumb, but how do I post the burn log? I have it in Notepad. Thanks for your help and patience.

You can copy and paste, no one appears "dumb" to me for asking a question. Just scroll over highlighting the text in your most recent attempt/log and right click in the highlighted area and click copy, then right click in the reply box and click paste.

I think thats your answer, media won't support 2.4

Actually, I think I might see the problem.

                              00:04:46 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: SONY-D21-00) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x, 18x)

which I'm guessing means that they cannot burn at 2.4 speeds. Am I right?
