What's da fastest anyone has ever read/burned complete movie (as .iso or any copy met

What's da fastest anyone has ever read/burned complete movie (as .iso or any copy method) to bd-r?

I have a brand new, supposedly very fast, 12x from Lite-On (iHBS212-08) which saves (flawlessly) 40+ GB .iso's in @45 minutes. However, using latest v.8.1.9.6, compressing/copying straight from disc, and burning to single layer bd25 takes about 15 hours. No trans-coding, just a simple copy.

I loaded .iso into fab, after reading someones thread suggestion a few days ago, didn't help-still 15 hrs.

If task 1 of 2 during a session takes basically 15 minutes in an .iso rip/read, why does same task take six hours in copy mode (even with slight compression)? Is the compression scheme/algorithm wound too tight?

I don't think the media is an issue either. I'm using 6x verbatims. None of the bd-r media out there is faster than 6x/8x anyway so why burners are up to 14x now is beyond me.

I was going to try ImgBurn but I don't have any dual layers so I'm going to have to compress one of my current.iso's and re-save it later today.

Every movie is different, but 15 hours is crazy, something is wrong.

You need to post your internal and burn logs from one that took that much time.

Here, are you talking about BD or DVD?

BD Copy does not transcode, when you compress, even a little, it decodes and re-encodes.

I am moving your thread to General Question forum.

"Here, are you talking about BD or DVD?" BD

I should also mention that I stuck the same burner in an enclosure and used exact same configuration in my son's i7 lappy. The USB 2.0 connection read/burned in just under 6 hours.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time right now to log 15+ hours for posting. Is there a comprehensive troubleshoot/config walkthrough somewhere to eliminate the elementary crap?

I really miss dvd shrink and decrypter. Almost never had issues. And if I did it was almost always media related-bite me ritek.

There are a couple of problems here. First of all I want to say that on one occassion I did have a movie that took more than 24 hours to clone. I dont remember the title (I have over 900 titles) but it was an unusual movie and I didnt want to mess with finding out what was going on so I just let the computer run for a couple of days by itself as I have several available in my BOINC farm.

That being said, I think your problem is the USB 2 and iHBS212 combination. I have iHBS112 which is the bulk version of the iHBS212. On my Q6700 win7x64 gtx460 desktop, I cannot burn BD-R with the iHBS112 at any speed lower than 4x as shown in this speed dialog box:

If you put this drive into an enclosure it will not run at any speed less than 4x. According to Nero and confirmed at DVDFab: the laser intensity cannot be turned down far enough to burn BD at 2x or 1x. The disk must turn at 4x to prevent the disk from being damaged. My guess is that you cannot transmit 4x BD rate over USB2 probably because the burner is not specifically designed for USB interface. I suspect that the 18k byte/second speed is too much thruput for USB2 on your system and it cannot sustain that rate for long. You can verify this by observing if the activity LED turns off and back on. If the LED is on then the disk is turning. If it goes off the disk then has to be brought back up to speed before the 4x burn is enabled. When an underflow occures the burn stops and if the buffer does not fill quick enough the disk will slow down or even stop turning. On my desktop system the LED is normally always on and I rarely see it go off. When it does go off Nero shows a buffer underrun condition.

I have a portable BD writer by Samsung, SE-506. It is designed to run on USB2. It runs fine when reading or playing BD or burning DVD but the one and only time I tried to burn a BD-DL I got constant buffer underrun, the disk stopped turning and had to pick speed back up and it was obviously going to take more than 8 hours to simply burn an ISO that was already stored on the hard drive. While this portable BD burner was designed for USB, it simply cannot sustain USB2 speeds at 4x.

You might check your motherboard users manual and see if there is a separate USB2 port that is on a different chip than the keyboard, mouse, hub or any other USB device you might have plugged in to avoid bandwidth sharing. I suspect that the problem is the sustained thruput of 4x cannot be maintained.

Some other observations. dvdshrink & decrypter are for dvd's, not BD. For problem BD's I suggest you clone the disk to the hard drive, then run the compression down to 25gb. You did not mention the CPU or GPU you have. If you have gtx460 or better then use GPU else turn off GPU (CUDA actually) and use software and lightening recode.

A problem BD would be one that the main movie is > 25gb.

I do not have a PS3 nor do any of my settop BD players have cinavia. This allows me to use DVDFab to create an ISO and then Nero to burn it. If you are makeing backups for your PS3 then you must use that imgburn to write the nonce and possibly it make take a long time from start to finish.

Beemer, I only used this drive as an external once as an experiment and it read and burned fine. My point with that issue is that the bus on my mobo got beat by a slow 60Mb p/s usb port. However, at least now I know its not the media. I was only lamenting about dvd decrypter and shrink. I've used both very successfully since their inception and through their demise.

"You did not mention the CPU or GPU you have. If you have gtx460 or better then use GPU else turn off GPU (CUDA actually) and use software and lightening recode." I have a 2.4 dual core and a geforce 8600 but if I'm not transcoding and simply cloning, why would the cpu/gpu matter? I realize if the hardware was extremely ancient, that may be an issue.

CBR929, I'm going to try a few more things before giving up the system to 15+ more hours of abuse. If all else fails though I'll try fab again and post the log.

            Thanks.
