    Hi damienperso
A few other members are also having this problem,we have not been able to figure it out yet, nor has the developer chimed in to help figure it out.

Others have had success disabling their anti virus or uninstalling it, if they had Bitdefender

Wish I could be more help.

Setting Up ImgBurn and DVDFab to work together

Tips for Posting DVDFab Logs in the Forum

This may not be a general solution, but this is what worked for my situation. Briefly, the initial builds of version 9 worked fine in every respect and co-existed with version 8. After installing 9.0.1.6, I was able to access that version once but it failed to launch every time after that. Hoping that newer versions would address the issue, I installed 9.0.1.7, 9.0.1.8, and 9.0.2.0 but continued to have the same failure that others have described - the "contacting server" screen displayed for about 1.25 minutes, then the nag about AnyDVD appeared, but when clicking OK, the program terminated and the error reporting window appeared. Log files were almost identical to that posted by "damienperso" below.

Tonight I uninstalled version 9.0.2.0 and then manually edited the Windows 7 registry to remove ALL instances of any keys that contained the string "DVDFab9" or "DVDFab 9" or any other instance of DVDFab installed in the default folder [Program Files (x86)/DVDFab] since I have version 8 installed in a different location.

I then rebooted and ran the DVDFab 9.0.2.0 setup.exe "as an Administrator." At the end of the installation, a second reboot was required. After that reboot, I started the program, and unlike prior attempts, it asked for my registration email and password and after entering those, the program displayed the correct registration screen and started normally.

I had to modify some settings, but was able to use the program to back up a couple of Blu-ray DVDs to ISO files on a local hard drive.

I'm not sure the problem is entirely solved, but if it is, then the "clue" in this process may be that at some stage the updating of version 9 may have broken the link to registration data on the computer leading to the failure of the registration server check on program start. I don't think I'll know until the next update to version 9 is offered.

Again, my success in fixing the problem may not help anyone else, but I recommend it as worth a try. FWIW, the computer that had experienced the problems is running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. There have been no changes in hardware (CPU, disk drives, memory, graphics card, etc.) during the time when the version 9 failure appeared and certainly no changes other than the uninstall/reinstall (with registry edits) described above. I believe this is evidence that the problems people are experiencing with version 9 startup have NOTHING to do with hardware.

      Hope this helps someone...

        DVDfab v9 fail at start

        @ CBR929 & ccj

I had that problem with the V8 versions and I found that if I installed the version I wanted in its own folder! Then check control panel, uninstall program to see if it was installed and it was! Then I would install a V8 I didn't like and check control panel again to see if it was installed and if it was I used REVO Uninstaller and uninstalled it and the V8 I wanted to use worked all the time and wouldn't show up under control panel uninstall program!

Then with V9 I just repeated that same process, I have 9020 installed, but doesn't show up under control panel uninstall program!, but works everytime! Maybe this could be a clue, it worked for me!

The problem is related to components that DVDFab installs with v9020, the developers are working on it full time. If you have not tried the v9021 Beta that was posted, please try it and post the results.

Note that the Preview function may not work in the 9021 test Beta.

            Diagnosis

            @signals:

Many of us reported that the problems of DVDFab9 failing to complete the registration check and terminating on startup began with versions prior to build 9.0.2.0. In my case, the first signs of this problem arose with 9.0.1.6 and continued for the next three releases until I uninstalled, cleaned the registry, and re-installed, in which case build 9.0.2.0 started (and worked) normally.

            Two questions:

            1. Can you provide additional details about the components of v9.0.2.0 that you believe caused this problem?

            2. In my case, version 9.0.2.0 started normally the first time after being re-installed "as an Administrator." Are you saying that if I close the program, then subsequent attempts to run v9.0.2.0 will fail as before?

            Thank you,

            Calvin

                More information

To answer the second of my own questions:

I closed the instance of v9.0.2.0 that had been running successfully since the re-installation last night. When I attempted to re-start it a few minutes later, it failed the "Accessing server information" stage (it takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes to time-out).

I then downloaded and installed v9.0.2.1beta in the default folder [Program Files (x86)/DVDFab 9] and tried again, only to get the exact same result.

I then uninstalled v9.0.2.1beta and, to check "885A"'s suggestion, re-installed v9.0.2.1beta in a different folder on a different drive. After the required re-boot, I was expecting it to work, but once again this version failed to start in exactly the same way ("Accessing server information"). And again, with the exception of hardware differences between my computer/os and "damienperso"'s listing, the log file for the failed start looks essentially the same.

When I compare the log for a failed start to a successful start, the main differences are in the line that begin "Connection type is: 0" in the failed staft, but are "Connection type is: 1" in the successful start. The failure log then includes 9 lines indicating "Parse string is: 8260762964" and one more "Parse string is: xxxxxxxxx" that do not show up in the log for a successful start. This suggests that there are problems establishing a connection with the registration server that are somewhere in the DVDFab 9 software. If hardware were the problem, I would not have been able to start v9.0.2.0 successfully last night - even though it was only for a single instance. Also, I do not use Windows firewalls or virus protection other than Windows Defender. The OS is Win 7 x64 Ultimate, Intel Core i7 950, 12GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series GPU. DVDFab 8.2.2.6 continues to work normally.

At any rate, updating v9.0.2.0 with v9.0.2.1beta did not solve the problem, even when attempting to install 9.0.2.1beta into different folders on different drives.

I have sent log files of the latest start attempts.

The information I had is almost 24 hours old and probably outdated by now. There will hopefully be an update when the day begins in Beijing in a few hours. The feedback on the 9021 Beta is what they needed and will be helpful, thanks for that.

Interesting that we're getting different results...

Can you say more about how you did the installation? Did you just install on top of 9.0.2.0 or some other version of 9? Did you use the default install folder or a different one? Did you clean the registry before installing 9.0.2.1?Did the program ask for your registration information on first run? Did it run a second time after exiting the first instance?

I thought 9.0.2.0 had resolved the problems - until the second time I tried to run it.

Any hints for those of us still having problems?

                      Thanks...

[Ooops - just noticed that 9.0.2.2 has been added - will try that as soon as I can...]

Just tried 9.0.2.2 and it will not launch.

I tried intalling 9.0.2.2 and it will not launch at all. It seemed to install just fine and asked for a reboot. Following the reboot, clicking on the icon gets no response. Running as administrator gets no response. V8 still works just fine.

                          v 9.0.2.2 results

After my failure with 9.0.2.1, before trying 9.0.2.2 I decided to uninstall version 9 (build 9.0.2.1), clean the registry of all keys that included "DVDFab 9" and "DVDFab9" and reboot before installing 9.0.2.2.

That installation required another reboot. When I started 9.0.2.2 for the first time, there was a long delay on the splash screen (Accessing server information) so I thought it was about to fail, but I was surprised to see the window requesting registration information. I provided that and v9.0.2.2 then started normally.

Given the hour in the eastern USA, I will backup some discs tomorrow and then try closing the program and restarting. For me, the second start has been the critical test of stability.

@ltoons - It may be an act of tail-chasing, but if you have the time/patience, I'd suggest following the same [a] uninstall and [b] registry clean process before trying to re-install 9.0.2.2. You might get a better outcome - at least on the first try after the post-install reboot.

This time during the registry cleaning, I saw some keys I didn't recall seeing before in which "DVDFab 9" appeared. The top level key was named "Trolltech," which is probably related to the "Qt" part of the filename for version 8. Trolltech was bought by Nokia a few years ago and is primarily known for a linux-based development platform for phones and other mobile devices as well as home media. The Trolltech registry keys only referred to DVDFab 9, not version 8, which I thought was odd.

At any rate, I deleted them when cleaning the registry, but after installing v9.0.2.2, they were back again in the two keys:

                          HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trolltech

                          and

                          HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1082409091-2442078209-48399407-1000\Software\Trolltech

and DVDFab 9 appears as a subkey (for example):

                          HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trolltech\OrganizationD efaults\Qt Plugin Cache 4.8.false\C:\Program Files (x86)\DVDFab 9

This may have nothing to do with the startup failure issues, but the Qt plugin clearly is a component of DVDFab 9 but NOT DVDFab 8.[/SIZE]

Thank you, Potti, I'll keep that one in mind.

However, in this case, after backing up four discs, I closed v9.0.2.2 and after about an hour, tried to start the program again. The "Accessing server information" splash screen was displayed for over one minute, so I was pretty certain it was headed for a crash, but I was wrong. After showing the "AnyDVD" warning, the program started normally, and all my custom settings were intact.

                              So far, so good...

                              Thanks for the help,
