Apple rip profiles changed

Hi All. I purchased the full Fab version so I've been able to rip my DVD's to hard drive for playback on my Apple TV or iPad. I've been making my way through my DVD collection and everything was going fine.

Yesterday there was an update to version 9.1.2.2 and after that I found that all my Apple profiles are the same. No matter what device I choose the profile is the same. BTW it looks like it's a rip to a small device like an ipod

I can't say for sure if the update is related but it was working fine the last time I used it and it's only after the update that I noticed it.

Is there a way to restore the Apple device profiles?

Please post a DVDFab internal log from an iPad conversion. I have not used Ripper since installing the new version. If you have the free MediaInfo tool, post or attach the results from one of the output files after MediaInfo scans it.

I just ripped Despicable Me 2 using the new iPad profile and it looks fine, plays fine in the various softplayers, my iPad is graveyard dead so I'll try it after a charge.

Some of the info you requested is below. I didn't have MediaInfo but I've just installed it. I'm trying to figure out how to post that log file for you. In the mean time below you will find the Fab log file. I added my selection of iPad4 to the log so you could see that. This movie is "Bourne Legacy" DVD.

I also checked all the Apple profiles and all the TV, iPad, and iPhone profiles are all the same. A couple of the iPod's are different. I noticed in the log file that these selections show up so I'm adding that to this message for you to see as well.

It's not that it won't rip, it does, but the Apple profiles are all the same (or mostly). The resolution, bit rate etc, appear to be for a small device like the iPhone. The file size on a DVD rip is about 0.8gb when an Apple TV3 (or iPad 4) rip should b about 5.0gb.

FYI. I checked some of the other device profiles i.e. Samsung, Microsoft, and they all appear to be fine. Although I didn't check them all.

I've never used MediaInfo before so you'll have to let me know if this is what you want. If it's other I'll try to get it for you.

5GB is way big for a DVD rip, Blue-Ray maybe? Despicable Me 2 came out 1.1GB. If you want bigger file output you can set it for that.

Prior to the update the Apple TV3 and iPad4 conversion to MP4 increased resolution to, in most cases, 1920x... with a high bit rate. Essentially it's just converting the DVD to MP4 without any compression so the file size stays relatively large. I don't have a problem with that as it maintains quality.

"Way to big" is a matter of choice really. Prior to the update if you wanted to compress the file and reduce size and quality you simply selected iPad, iPad2 or even Apple TV (original). All of which used a smaller resolution and smaller bitrate.

What I`m trying to say is that now it doesn`t matter what profile you select they are all the same. Compressed with small resolution and small bitrate.

I know you can select the resolution and change it (for a one time rip). You aren't understanding my point however.

Under Apple profiles each device "had" a unique profile with associated resolution etc. Now with the new version it appears that the resolution and settings on all Apple devices are the same. If all devices are to have the same resolution why have the choice of selection?

It would "appear" that the 9.1.2.2 update was corrupted with respect to Apple device profiles. I just want the correct profiles restored so I can continue on my merry ripping way. Which was my original question.

I suspect "signals" is looking into the issue and discovering the same thing I have. Alternatively I've corrupted those profiles somehow but I don't see any setting that says "change 3/4 of all Apple profiles to be the same". But maybe I'm wrong

You don't have to set the resolution every time, set it and the desired bit rate and click save it as default and OK and it will be there every time from now on. I understand they changed the default frame resolution in the profiles and it threw you a curve. See attached:

Do you have the default properties for all the Apple devices? I have no idea what they were. I don't want to just make stuff up; I would like the default profiles back. Besides it really shouldn't be my responsibility to fix the software from a poor update.

This really does tick me off though. I just paid close to $300 for the full blown version specifically to do the job I mentioned. Now I have to screw around with profiles to fix it? Not exactly what I would expect after a purchase.

I'll be patient and give it a few days and see if the good folks at DVDFab come up with a fix. I don't think it's their intention to screw up the profiles so we'll see what happens.

Can I assume that they watch this forum or is there a ticket system to advise them of bugs?

Since upgrading to 9.1.2.2 I also cannot rip any video for my Iphone 4S without manually tweaking default parameters. As mentionned by the original poster, the profile for all apple device seems in error.

What kind of video source you're using? DVD or Blu-ray .

9122 version of the Apple Profile file just modify the output video resolution ,

Video resolution changed to automatically calculate based on video .
