    This is unacceptable!

I have downloaded DVDFab 6.060 and installed it on one of my computers some time ago. I have used the free HD Decrypter part of DVDFab 5 before and it usually works great. I thought it should be the same with DVDFab 6. Not so.

Just a few moments ago I launched DVDFab 6, choose to use the free HD Decrypter, and launch the program. However, when I attempt to rip a DVD I own onto the hard disk, the program displayed a box saying I was about to "try" the DVD to DVD option. I have never encountered this situation before. In the past the program just went on to rip the DVD.

Previously there was once when I wrongly chose to use the DVD to DVD option and then that box appeared whenever I attempted to rip a DVD. But this time I was absolutely certain I chose the free HD Decrypter option and that box appeared out of nowhere. Now whenever I attempted to rip a DVD that same box appeared, even though I chose to use the free HD Decrypter option at start up.

I am only interested in the free part of the program and I have no intention of using other parts of the program at this time. I don't understand why I was told that I "tried" the DVD to DVD option. If this is your way to try to force me to pay for the use of the program, you have failed miserably. What if the trial period ends? Will I then be locked out of the program, even the free part? (The program upon launching now tells me the DVD to DVD option is already expired (in Chinese) but I am still told that I am about to try it when I attempt to rip a DVD.)

And please don't tell me to upgrade to the latest version for it is useless. I am well aware that once that trial box is activated it will never go away. I repeat: I just want to use the free part and I don't want to be bothered about the other parts of the program at this time. (And, the design of the launch box is pretty much to lure an unsuspecting user to click to launch and then the DVD to DVD trial will be activated. I need to choose to use the free part every time.)

It is not unusual for the FREE portion of a paid software product to have a few nag pop-ups that you must click through.

If it is so unacceptable to you then please feel FREE to return the FREE product for a full refund of the purchase price. </sarcasm>

It should revert to the HD Decrypter allowable functions after the 30-day free trial of DVD to DVD expires. That level of functionality is still FREE, no one is forced to buy something they don't want.

lol to funny............i think people want a free 30 day trial with every release.

Maybe beta's should not work for 30 day trial users

Hmm. dont diss the free part concept, it was what made me try the software and then buy the some licences. If a free part of some software don't work i would never consider buying...

And as a user i have reenter code from time to time, so something of the registration isn't stable.

yes dvdfab 6 still comes with a 30 day trial and free decrypter

the first window of dvdfab shows the license information, this is not a screen to choose which option you would like to use. there is a check mark on the bottom left corner to disable the screen from showing.

DVDFab HD Decrypter is free and will continue to function properly.

Thank you for all your responses.

What I want to say is, I just want to use the free part (what I mean is the ability to rip DVDs to hard disk only) and not be bothered by other messages like I encountered. In DVDFab 5 I was never bothered by such a message.

And thanks to someone up for confirming that the free part will still work after 30 days and that the first screen is just a notice and not a choice to make. But then there will be another question : why does that "try" message appear when I attempt to rip a DVD to hard disk, when I have never encountered one before in DVDFab 5? Is this behaviour new in DVDFab 6? If this is true, does this mean that ripping DVDs to hard disk now requires paying for the software after the 30 days trial?

And to the poster who said I should just check the box to not show the option again: I have tried that, but when I did, that "try" message would appear out of nowhere. In fact, I confirmed this by restoring a previous image of my Windows installation, install DVDFab 6.060 (or 6.070) and trying again. I remember clearly when I was using DVDFab 6.040 that I made certain to "choose" HD Decrypter on the first page and then the program just allowed me to rip DVDs without any "try" message. I can only speculate that somehow this may have changed in DVDFab 6.060 or 6.070.

Anyway, it seems from your answers that I should not have to worry about losing the free functionality of the program. Thanks again.

And if anyone was offended by my first message, I apologize. I was quite frustrated at that point.

One more thing: I attempted to clean uninstall DVDFab 6 (by following well-known instructions on the internet) and reinstall DVDFab 5.250 after encountering this message. But DVDFab 5.250 simply won't run (or run just once) after installation. Uninstalling and reinstalling (even using a different copy which I know work previously) does not help either.

No, you will still be able to use the free version after the 30-day trial, minus the functions that only come with the paid version (Customize, Merge, compression etc.) The behaviour you notice was part of some changes to the key system which was reworked beginning with V6. This has caused some confusion for other users of HD Decrypter as well. I do think you could have picked a better title for your thread.

Oh? So this is a new behaviour in DVDFab 6?

Is ripping DVDs to hard disk part of the free version or the paid version then? It was part of the free version in DVDFab 5 but in DVDFab 6 I am not so sure now. If it is now part of the paid version, then I think I will have to find other alternatives.

It is still part of the free version and as far as I know always will be. I think that your questions and concerns have been answered with patience and clarity by my fellow moderators and several knowledgeable users of DVDFab, so this thread will be closed to further posts.

Ripping DVDs to hard disk without shrinking it has always been free

I do not think you will find another free version as good as DVDFab
