    "An unknown error has occurred"

Hello all. New to the thread, have been using various versions of DVDFab through the years, but this is my first time trying a BD.

every time I put a BD in my burner (yes, it's a BD burner...) DVDFab starts reading it but then errors out saying "An unknown error has occured. Please check for a new version at DVDFab site"

I searched the forums and it seems like a few people have reported the same, but there is never any resolution, the thread just closes... Hopefully someone might know the fix.

I have tried with 2 BD's, and a clean uninstall/CCleaner/reinsall. DVD's seem to work fine. I have tried with firewall off, with proxy and direct to internet, but none of them seem to make a difference.

Here are the contents of the two logs:

Obviously logs are truncated, but similar results can be seen for the other attempts/BD's.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.

    Hi vega12,

Have you tried DVDFab 8.0.7.3 to open your blu-ray movies?
Please use Full Disc module, choose bd50 as output size, choose your hard drive as target save location to see if you still get the same error message "An unknown error has occured. Please check for a new version at DVDFab site"

Ok, I have made some progress. apparently something in my firewall was blocking some sort of access to DVDFab. I changed it to a different one, and now instead of the "Unknown error" I get: "Internet access is required to open this disk"

Funny thing is, I am posting to this forum from the same machine, so internet access is definitely enabled. Is there a port that needs to be open in the firewall to allow access back to DVDFab? I did read through the "internet access required" thread but didn't see any mention of opening specific ports.

All outbound connections are unblocked at the moment. But nothing is enabled from outside in to this machine.

            Hi vega12,

Please make sure you have enabled "direct connection to the Internet" option in DVDFab Common Settings-Network. Then copy bd disc again to see the result.

Provide DVDFab a direct connection to the internet or open a port in your firewall and tell DVDFab to use it on the Common Settings page that Sunny mentioned. The "internet access required" message means it can't hear the server (or is getting no response).

                All, some updated information.

The no inernet connection was a dns forwarding issue, and I can now start a BD rip with no issues.

The original issue "an unknown error has occurred" is related to an issue with using Squid as a proxy. As soon as I turn squid on (it's set up to be transparent) I get the unknown error issue. This happens if I have the proxy manually set in the internet connection settings as well. Some sort of disconnect.

it is possible to configure squid to directly access some websites/servers instead of caching. Does anyone know of the server names that dvdfab needs to access to work correctly? I am experiencing the same problem and my network is running squid.
