I searched through the forum, but what little I could find on this subject seemed to be based on a case by case situation that caused it. So here is my info and any help would be greatly appreciated
---------------------
I have successfully encoded about 30+ movies and each time they have come out flawlessly. The average time for encoding is between 7-9 hours, and I understand this is average for my current setup. I just order a Core i7 and extra goodies to amend this
However, I seem to have come across 8 - 10 movies that seem to hang on a certain m2ts file every time and just sit there for what would be an eternity if I were to not stop it. I always rip them to the HDD first to save my laser from extra work. During the 50GB-to-25GB 1080P encoding the timer will end up sticking to 00:00:00, the percentage never moves again and the transfer rate is completely gone. I never get an error! I left one sitting for a total of 27 hours while I went to work to see what would happen and came back to the EXACT same stats I had left it, except for the changed elapsed times.
I have tried all different kinds of setting, with the same results, on multiple movies. At the moment I am trying the only combination I think I haven't used yet to see how far it will get; all set to software except where CoreAVC is an option.
Wow, sorry for the book. Just trying to give details :P Here are my logs and stats for one of the issues (Silence of the Lambs SE):
I am currently using:

**AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.90GHz
**4GB Memory
**LG BD-RE WH10LS30 with firmware 1.0, to rip only
**Internal 3TB (2x1.5TB) Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS to store/process
**GeForce 9500 GT graphics card

I think that's all asked for and that I thought would be needed. If any other info is required let me know I never have issues burning. I use ImgBurn to convert to ISO and burn at slow speed. Everything comes out great... if it makes it that far
ADDITION:
Before I hit submit, I noticed my last configuration has landed on this same spot and stuck there. 00:00:00 timer, no transfer rate shown, and the percentage is unmoving. Same movie as the stats above and same m2ts file. I can definitely notice a time delay without using CUDA for the other files, though. Talk about some extreme extensions! I can't wait for my Core i7 to get here! Is this really worth the hassle, do you think? Or should I just skip the erroneous movies and do them after my i7 build? I would like to use this comp also though, so I guess I need to sort it out :/
Thanks for any assistance!
