    Unending encode times

I searched through the forum, but what little I could find on this subject seemed to be based on a case by case situation that caused it. So here is my info and any help would be greatly appreciated
    ---------------------

I have successfully encoded about 30+ movies and each time they have come out flawlessly. The average time for encoding is between 7-9 hours, and I understand this is average for my current setup. I just order a Core i7 and extra goodies to amend this

However, I seem to have come across 8 - 10 movies that seem to hang on a certain m2ts file every time and just sit there for what would be an eternity if I were to not stop it. I always rip them to the HDD first to save my laser from extra work. During the 50GB-to-25GB 1080P encoding the timer will end up sticking to 00:00:00, the percentage never moves again and the transfer rate is completely gone. I never get an error! I left one sitting for a total of 27 hours while I went to work to see what would happen and came back to the EXACT same stats I had left it, except for the changed elapsed times.

I have tried all different kinds of setting, with the same results, on multiple movies. At the moment I am trying the only combination I think I haven't used yet to see how far it will get; all set to software except where CoreAVC is an option.

Wow, sorry for the book. Just trying to give details :P Here are my logs and stats for one of the issues (Silence of the Lambs SE):

    I am currently using:

    **Window 7 Ultimate (Build 7600)
    **AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.90GHz
    **4GB Memory
**LG BD-RE WH10LS30 with firmware 1.0, to rip only
    **Internal 3TB (2x1.5TB) Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS to store/process
    **GeForce 9500 GT graphics card

    ---------------

I think that's all asked for and that I thought would be needed. If any other info is required let me know I never have issues burning. I use ImgBurn to convert to ISO and burn at slow speed. Everything comes out great... if it makes it that far

    ADDITION:
Before I hit submit, I noticed my last configuration has landed on this same spot and stuck there. 00:00:00 timer, no transfer rate shown, and the percentage is unmoving. Same movie as the stats above and same m2ts file. I can definitely notice a time delay without using CUDA for the other files, though. Talk about some extreme extensions! I can't wait for my Core i7 to get here! Is this really worth the hassle, do you think? Or should I just skip the erroneous movies and do them after my i7 build? I would like to use this comp also though, so I guess I need to sort it out :/

    Thanks for any assistance!

Which of the BD copy modes were you using? I think I would try the new beta and see if it behaves any differently.

I am using the Clone option to rip to the HDD and then using the Full Disc (50GB to 25GB) to encode it.

I'll jump on the latest beta now and give it a try

Alright, I tried the latest beta with the same results and around the same percentage. 69.61% is what it stuck at this time. I believe it was 69.5?% last time.

I believe I stated wrong when saying I used the clone option before. I use the Full Disc option set to 50GB and ripping to a folder to lessen the stress on the drive. I should also add that after staying on this position for more than an hour or so, my CPU usage goes to idle.

I would claim bad disc, but I have 7 movies sitting on the drive that seem to do the same thing. At first, I was thinking it was the size of the file it was processing, but then it flew through my copy of Avatar easy as cake and the same for my Spiderman Trilogy.

        What is going on here

Once again, no error posted. Just stuck :/

          Either or both.

I can't give you any assistance coz fab developers do not share their thoughts with us poor lowly forum peasants but I suggest that you seriously look at your installation in the meantime.

There are a heap of posts on the subject and much more info is requirec from you.

I guess I'll just have to wait a few more days to finish receiving the parts for my new build. Then, hopefully at least, I can see if it is a specific problem with my current setup. I'll continue on with my other movies in the meantime.

BTW, do they happen to be Music/Concert disks or TV series?

Nah. The 7 are: All three Pirates of the Caribbean (that coincidence is what got me looking into this), Silence of the Lambs, The Road, Day After Tomorrow and Harry Potter 3 (1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 worked fine).

I had a similar issue with one BD. It was 2001. The disc played fine. But when I tried to back it up as is now my right it would hang. There were no visible scratches on the disc either. It was suggested here on the forum that I download VSO Inspector and check the disc, even though it was brand new. I bought it at Walmart. I did that and sure enough VSO Inspector found read errors. I returned the disc and had no problems backing up my new BD.

Can't you take advantage of CUDA?

P.S. I am using the same burner you are the difference is I have the Core i7 (920 Nehalem) with a GTX 275 and 9800GTX. You should see a marked improvement.

Yeah, when trying to disable CUDA to see if it helped my issues, the encoding times went from about 12 hours or so, to about 20+ hours on my AMD X2 5600+. I got all of my parts in yesterday and am now replying to you on my Core-i7 930 Bloomfield. When I saw the encoding times with CUDA being uses now being about 3 hours I about shat myself lol - Not only that, but it's not even over-clocked yet and yet I still have plenty of cpu power to do everything else too. I am glad I made that purchase!

Alas, it still hung at EXACTLY the 69.61% in Silence of the Lambs. I will try the VSO Inspector you mentioned and see what it has to say. Otherwise, I guess I will just forget about this one and let it stay original on my shelf. I'd so much rather box them all up in the closet though :P

Nope, VSO Inspector showed 0 errors! Oh well, I'll try this one again another day and just set it to the side for now :/

                        Success! ...sort of.

At the recommendation of a fellow user, I dropped my version number to 7.0.7.9 and miraculously ones that I could not get to work before suddenly work for me now. Obviously it won't removed encryption off of the newer ones, but I see that the new 8.0+ line installs to a different folder when you set it up, so I now use the two in tandem. DVDFab 8 to rips as a full unencoded iso or file system, and then DVDFab 7 to encode. So far complete success on multiple movies that errored almost immediately after starting before.

So no more FabCore errors or never-ending encode times/lock-ups.

                        So what happened after 7.9?

That a good question so could you post internal and process logs from 7.9 and from 8 so that the developers can see the difference

I am glad I made that purchase.

Try software only, no cuda. I have a Core-i7 930 that is not overclocked and a 9600GT and the 9600GT slows the process down. With cuda my process take around two hours and without it take around a hour on the same movie(ID4). It does use most of your processor, but you might give it a try sometime.
