Look in the Beta Versions forum, just below the Official Releases.

You will need DL blanks or compression to make it fit on a DVD-5. If using DL, please try ImgBurn, it is free and still being updated. This does not sound like a protection removal issue (but could be). Please start a new thread for the burning problem.

i have the "dvd9" option selected on dvdfab and i am using regular memorex dvd+r 16X 4.7gb 120 min blank dvd's...just like i have been using for every single movie i have used dvdfab to burn successfully for the last 2-3 years. i have never had to use a "dual layered" blank dvd, nor have i had to use compression to make a full movie fit on a single layer blank dvd using dvdfab. you're right, this is not a protection removal issue. thank you for the hard work guys!

            Hi StephenAPSU
            Your post is confusing.
If a movie is over 4.38 GB then how can you say that you do not compress???
If you would like to fit this movie on your disc I suggest you choose the DVD5 option and pick the "movie only" option.

I have also edited your post please leave the sarcastic remarks off this forum.

If you are using single layer blank dvd, you need to select "DVD5" option in dvdfab.

as i just said, i have always had dvd9 selected. i have never used dvd5, and i have been able to successfully burn a back-up copy of every movie that i own, including every major new release. so either i am using dual layered blank dvds and am not aware of it (which i highly doubt, because i buy the plain old 100 pack of memorex dvd+r's every single time and have never bought anything else), or you are wrong and you do not have to select dvd5 if you are using single layered blank dvds. my own guess is that by selecting dvd9, that means you can rip a dual layered dvd (such as true grit) and condence it down to a file size small enough to fit on a single layered dvd when you burn it. am i correct? because how else would i have been able to fit the other countless dual layered movies i have burned up to this point on my single layered blank dvds?

...besides, your suggestion will not work anyways, because using dvdfab version 8.0.9.7, whenever i switch the option from dvd9 to dvd5 as you suggested, the results to the right of the selection box changes from "quality: 100% (6172 mb -> 6172 mb)" to "quality: 69% (6172 mb -> 4300 mb)"

thanks for the suggestion. but it's just not going to work. i should be able to select dvd9 just as i ALWAYS have and use the exact same blank memorex dvds that i always have to rip this movie with dvdfab and burn it with dvd shrink, just like i have for every major release before this one...

any other ideas? are we still working on a new fix?

                  Hi StephenAPSU
DVD Shrink is doing the compressing of the movie for you, to fit on a SL disc.

                      @StephenAPSU
If I may squeeze myself in your conversation...
                      Lets sort these things out:
So, there are two sizes of DVDs - 5 (single layer) and 9 (dual layer) - which can fit for abt 4.3 Gb and 8.5 Gb of data.
Depending on size of the movie, some of the movies (older ones) pressed on single layer DVD5, and others on DVD9.
When you about to make a backup copy, DVDFab giving you a choice of:

                      (a) make uncompressed copy. For that you have to select output DVD9. And if size of your content on original DVD is less than 4.3 Gb, it will fit single layer DVD5 despite the selection of DVD9. I hope this make sense so far. Essentially, selection of DVD9 as an output is a command to DVDFab "not to compress". However, if size of content is larger than 4.3 Gb, you will get an error, or you have to insert sufficient media (double-layer DVD9)

                      (b) make uncompressed copy of "main movie". In this case, DVDFab will extract only main movie leaving all extras and other crap behind to save space. It could of being your case. Because most of the movies are below 4.3 Gb in size (with removal extra languages), they will fit DVD5 without any problem. And again, output selection should be DVD9 if you don't want any compression. At this point selection of DVD9 output shouldn't be taken literally.

                      (c) make compressed copy of full disc. Naturally, selection of DVD5 as an output is a command to compress and squeeze it to 4.3 Gb format by.... yes, reduction in quality. This is exactly what you've seen:
the results to the right of the selection box changes from "quality: 100% (6172 mb -> 6172 mb)" to "quality: 69% (6172 mb -> 4300 mb)
                      (d) make a compressed copy of main movie. This is by far most popular profile because allowes you to use most inexpensive single-layer media with minimal loss in quality due to compression. As I mentioned, most of the movies aren't much large than 4.3 Gb, and compression usually ranges within 75-85%, which is virtually invisible for most of us.

I hope this recap is helpful for you and you will sort your issues out. If you still have questions, please let me know and we will continue this exercise.

I know he could be doing it with Fab choosing Main Movie and DVD5 as the option, and not have the extra steps involved.

Yes with some but not all of them and not the full disc without compression.
