Setting Up ImgBurn and DVDFab to work together
Tips for Posting DVDFab Logs in the Forum

hey guys, i am not trying to step on anybody's toes here. i hope i have not ticked off or offended anybody. the idea that someone had cooked up a 15 minute reply tells me i might have said something that made them mad. i apologize if i did. thank you for the detailed explanation of the options IPopov50. i somewhat understand it better. i am not claiming i know what anything means within dvdfab. thats why i said it was my guess. but i do know that i know what has worked for me within dvdfab and dvd shrink as a combination over the last few years, and that i know that something still isnt right with this fix. so, what i do know is these are the absolute facts regarding my dvdfab usage as a paying customer:
*i am using windows 7 home premium service pack 1.
*first thing i would like to point out to clear any confusion is that i never use dvdfab to burn my dvds. i have always used the following 2 combos:
dvdfab to rip the movie to my computer/freedvd to get rid of any extra protections/dvd shrink to shrink the size of the movie to fit on my single layer blank discs and then burn the movie to a blank dvd, or in some rare cases just dvdfab to rip and then dvd shrink to shrink and burn.
*as long as i have been using dvdfab (which has been almost 3 years now at least) i have always had my settings set so that pathplayer is "enabled when necessary". i've rarely had to change that option.
*every time i open up dvdfab i changed the settings so that it is automatically set so that "DVD9" is the choice by default and i've never for any reason had to change it to "DVD5" in order to rip any movie to my computer whatsoever.
*on the left hand side of dvdfab i have always had "full disc" selected. never have i chosen main movie or any other option, because i want an exact copy of whatever dvd movie i am copying, not just the movie itself.
*i have always used the exact same sized blank dvd media (give or take a different brand name with all the specs still being the same though): memorex / dvd+r / 16X / 4.7gb / 120 min
*i always make sure that the quality is at 100% before i click start on dvdfab. within the settings under "dvd/blu-ray / write / writable media (dvd-9) size" i have the changed the amount to "8152 (dvd+r dl) mb" and so far every movie's quality that i've ever ripped has been automatically set to 100% upon opening dvdfab. finally i click "start" and let dvdfab do its thing. and unless the dvd is scratched, i always get the box that says "process completed successfully!"
*for the the next step, i then click on the program "freedvd" to get rid of any extra protections still within the "video_ts" files of the freshly ripped movie until it says there are none left. in some rare cases this step can cause dvd shrink not to be able to open the files, so then in those cases i just skip this program and go on to my final step, which is dvd shrink.
*this final step is the most routine of all my steps and like i said, it has worked for every movie i have ever burned, and that step is using dvd shrink to shrink the files i have created by dvdfab. all i have to do on this step is open dvd shrink, select "open files" and select the folder for the movie i am going to burn, and then once it finishes "analysing" the movie folder, the only thing i ever mess with or change under the compression settings is if the movie is larger than the available "4,464 mb" i will uncheck any boxes for foreign languages on both the main movie and any menus or extras until the line is all green and the size of the shrunk movie folder is with the 4,464 mb and can fit on the disc. i never change the option in the drop down box from "automatic" and i do not ever move the "slider bar" percentage rate from the default position it starts at. i finally click "backup!" and 99.99% of the time dvd shrink burns me a perfectly successful copy of every dvd i've ever tried to copy.
now, the only other time before today that i have ever ran into any issues like this where it won't work using the same method i've been using this entire 3 years was back when dvfab version 8.0.6.0. was first released. that was a pain for me. you can look back at my posts and see where i had to go back and forth like i am doing now, until finally someone understood where i was coming from and fixed dvdfab so that it would still work as just a ripper, in combinatoin with dvd shrink as the program used to shrink and burn.
in regards to "true grit", using the near flawless method i described above, it rips 100% successfully without any errors using dvdfab. the spot it is consistently running into the error is at the point right when dvd shrink has finshed shrinking the movie and is just about to start the actual burning process. i know this because the blank dvd+r is still usable after the error, so it is obviously not even being able to begin the burn process before the error hits. it results in this same exact error whether i use "freedvd" in between the two programs or not, so that doesn't really seem to make a difference or be the main cause of the issue. here is what the dvd shrink error is saying. hopefully it can help you guys figure out the dvdfab solution better:

I am using 8.0.9.7 with path player enabled on full movie mode but when I start up DVD Fab and then put True Grit in DVD Fab will recognize it but it will not get past the screen where it says trying to open dvd source. Any suggestions?

Hi Chris98
I have not seen this error before, but make sure that Pathplayer is set to always enabled to do this:
Open Fab Click the Green √ top right > Protection > Path Player click Always Enabled click OK restart Fab and try again, to see if you still get the error.
Give this thread by my friend Maineman a read through

Hi StephenAPSU
Looking through your log you posted I noticed something hp BDDVDRW CH20L BC33 amdsata Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
Open Fab Click the Green √ top right > General > make sure Check for DMA Automatically is Checked and also Click the Reset DMA to the right click OK and restart Fab.
You can also check your drives mode by going into device manager IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers click IDE controllers advanced settings and check for DMA, if they are IDE, but make sure you check both of your IDE channels.
For Sata in the same folder IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Serial ATA controllers click the port that has your drive on it, and also check your DMA status.
Hope this helps you

DVD-Video files reallocation failed
An easy fix would be to run this program on the files you select to import to DVD Shrink.
FixVTS is a very tiny tool that allows you to adjust your DVD files into better DVD compliance, so they can be opened in DVDShrink, vobblanker or other DVD softwares.
Select Full DVD as the run option.
