Thank you, tli. I just wanted to make sure I got it.

I did a bit more testing on two other older WinXP Pro 32-bit boxes I'd around for misc testing platforms. Same observation that DVDFab 6.2.0.5 preview function did not work on these two PCs too, along with my previously reported observation above done on an older WinXP laptop.
Thanks for checking these other machines. I guess we know for sure there's a problem going on here with DVDFab 6.x.x.x and Windows XP Service Pack 3. I wonder if this version would work on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation.

Aha! So, I'm not nuts. Thanks for confirming that, tli. I guess we can safely say that there is something going wrong in the DVDFab 6.x.x.x versions that make it not work right with Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Mine too is greyed. What the heck is wrong with this version?

Hey, I'm new around here. I don't know the lay of the land yet. Thanks for the link you provided, David. I did manage to find that Beta Versions forum on my own, though, after I posted that last comment. Thank you just the same for providing me the link.

You know, I found a bug in version 6.2.1.0 already. The date at the top-left of the program says "DVDFab 6.2.1.0 (1/12/2009)" They got the year wrong. It should've been 1/12/2010.

Using the "DirectShow" option with the DVDFab Video decoder and the DVDFab Audio decoder, it worked perfectly.
Same here on XP Pro SP3.
Using the "Directshow" with the ffdshow filters that I have installed, I got no sound.
But I got video and sound with ffdshow Video Decoder and ffdhow Audio Decoder selected.

DXVA is enabled only if your graphic card supports it. Look under GPU Acceleration option.

It's correct. 2010 has not arrived yet. The date is in DD/MM/YYYY format, not what you're used to seeing in US date format.

Anyways, maybe someone close in contact with fengtao should let him aware of this problem that it happens on some XP system.

The Internal option never had sound and does not now.

The DirectShow option works with many (but not all) decoders. You can mix and match the video and audio decoders from different sources if necessary to find a pair that will work correctly on your system. The dvdfab, ffdshow, Elecard and Cyberlink have worked well for me. I did have problems with a version of ffdshow shortly after the feature was added. XP SP3 w/ATI graphics.

Hey, cool! toaddub! You're here, too! I'm so glad you chimed in as well! Awesome!

My video is outputted right out of the motherboard of my machine, so I guess it doesn't have this DXVA feature thingie, whatever that is. What is DXVA and what can it do?

Oh. I thought it was going to be its release date in 2010. So, it's in European-style format, then? I thought Fengtao was Chinese. Isn't it? Does China follow the European-style date format? You know, personally, I like and wish it was the standard, if the date was in YYYY/MM/DD format. Why? It would make sorting by date a whole hell of a lot easier in computing. Just add that date format to the front of the files you save and then sort that column and voila! Sorted by date!

Him? Fengtao is a man? Not a company?

Good to know on the Internal option.

Another puzzling thing is why does zZz get a separate ActiveMovie Window when it's supposed to play in the little lower-left preview window that can be maximized? Anyone get this same behavior?

I never opted for the Internal decoder. I always left the bullet in the default setting of "DVDFab Video Decoder". I only tried the Internal decoder to see if it acted correctly playing with sound. I see now that as you said, Internal doesn't play with sound. Thanks for clearing that up.

Several of you have mentioned this ffdshow and that it works for you. I take it that you mean it works, playing the video and sound in the DVDFab Preview screen, correct? Okay, so what decoder is this? Where can I get it? And, is it free? I'd like to try it out and see what happens.

Okay, two observations to report. DVDFab 6.2.0.5's Preview screen is now, strangely, working (with video and audio) on my machine using the default "DVDFab Video Decoder". This happened after I ran DVD Shrink and outputted a project to an output folder. This is freaking crazy, right? Maybe DVD Shrink did something. I don't know what but, it's freaking weird! Second observation. I downloaded and installed ffdshow and selected it for both video and audio and it too works normally as the default DVDFab Decoder. Like davidh said, all of a sudden, DVDFab's preview started working correctly. I definitely think DVD Shrink had something to do with fixing DVDFab's behavior. What that is, I haven't the foggiest.

                              Okay, this is really weird.

I had DVD Shrink on my computer, and I used to use it in conjunction with DVDFab, however I removed it completely from my computer recently.

Maybe DVD Shrink fixed DVDFab's malfunctioning behavior and even though it was removed afterwards, the fix took hold and remained. Sort of like throwing a switch.
