I have another question. On all my back-up DVD's when I put them in the DVD player they all start playing with the subtitles turned on. Is there a way to change this or is this a common issue with back-ups?
Thanks again.
I think that would be a setting on your stand alone dvd player. now when converting dvd to mobile format there is a option select to "Display only forced subpicture" when playing back on a mobile device but not dvd to dvd.
One of my players does that if you had the subtitles enabled for the previous movie and didn't turn them off when it was done. Very annoying. DVDFab does not change anything in DVD to DVD mode that would cause them to become forced on as Wild and Blue noted.
I'm new to DVDFab. The first time I used it (today), this happened to me, too. However, I did not have the subtitles turned on when I watched the movie previous to taking my backup copy. Here's what I did:
Chose following options to copy a DVD to my hard drive:
a. DVD to DVD "main movie" (because the DVD9 original disk has a lot
of extra stuff on it, and it all wouldn't fit onto my DVD5 blank disk)
b. audio "ac-3/2" normal and director's comments both checked
c. subpicture "English normal captions" checked
Imgburn:
a. Write file/folders to DVD5 disk in "build" mode
Could the problem be that I didn't copy the menu onto the new disk, so I didn't have an option to turn the subtitles off?
Or could the problem be I had checked "subpicture English normal captions"? If the latter, then it seems as if the new disk will be burned either with or without subtitles, depending on whether I check this box or not (i.e., without the option to toggle them on or off at will).
If I have to copy the menu from the original disk in order to turn subtitles on/off, how can I recognize it in order to copy it without doing a full disk copy?
I tried to attach my logs, but repeatedly got the following error on all 3 log files: [B]"dvdfab_process.log: Invalid File" so they're below.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help. I want to buy this product, but am concerned about this problem with subtitles.
Thanks, Susan

I've run a few tests, with these results:
1. "Main movie" copy with "subpictures" checked then burned using Imgburn resulted in a new disk which played the movies with the subtitles always showing.
2. "Main movie" copy with "subpictures" not checked then burned using Imgburn resulted in a new disk which did not have subtitles.
3. "Full disk" copy then burned using Imgburn resulted in a new disk with a full working menu, allowing me to turn the subtitles on and off at will.

You may have accidentally set the subtitles to "default mode", meaning the IFO file tells the player to always play them, even without pushing any buttons. When this happens a small blue arrow, called the Default arrow, appears just to the left of the checkbox you use to include or exclude the subpicture stream from processing. The arrow will only appear in Main Movie, Merge and Customize modes (and only in Customize if you remove the original menus). You can turn it off by single clicking it again.
I've experienced the problem too. DVDshrink features a "hide subpicture" option which forces the subtitle to be hidden. This would be a really useful feature in DVDfab.
thanks Signals,
You answered my question perfectly...I too was getting "auto" subtitles...I noticed that as I was selecting or deselecting different languages such as spanish, that little blue arrow would show up if I clicked in just the right spot...now with this info I know how to add spanish subs to my backup but doing it without having them automatically show up when I play back the movie.
You will also be glad to know that I wanted to start a new thread, but I used the search feature first.

That's great. Glad you found your answer. It's easy to do, especially on a laptop with a touchpad or trackpoint instead of a mouse. I have done it more than once.
signals,
I am now convinced that something is wrong. I have tested further and when I add spanish subtitles they automatically show up when I play back the movie...I make sure that the little blue arrow is not there. If I don't touch the subs at all and just leave the english checked all is good...no auto subs. I just finished two different movies in two different machines and the result was the same for both. And yes I am running 6.1.2.5
I did main movie only...For the soundtrack english was pre-checked and the little blue arrow is there. I added the spanish soundtrack and that works as it should...spanish sound was added to the disc and english is the default language. This just will not hold true with the subtitles. Could there be a glitch in the program?
Certainly that is possible, and not many users make discs with those settings, so it might go unnoticed. I will find a disc with Spanish subs and try it tomorrow. Tell me which copy mode you are using (Main Movie, Full Disc etc.)
