Glad your at least burning now.
ImgBurn is more configurable than most burn engines, that's why it is the "best burn engine on the planet", bar none.
I forgot to mention, that I also use ImgBurn independently by itself.

Thanks and I agree, ImgBurn is impressive. It's surprising to me that it's a freeware.

My nephew mentioned that some freeware is better than the ones that require purchasing.

That's interesting about Passkey. I've had it for a few years, along with DVDFab Copy but I use Passkey for playback on my 2 PC's. I read a little about the ripping feature. That's what I'm guessing that you're referring to here.

Do I have this part right? -> Passkey can be used to rip a dvd to the HDD as a decrypted region-free folder. Then one can use a burn engine to copy the folder to the dvd media.

Does Passkey work with DL burns? When I use DVDFab Copy with my DL burns, I have the option to select DVD5 or 9 to control the compression rate. Does Passkey have that option?

It sounds lilke nearly all of my usual dvd burning's wouldn't require DVDFab Copy. Since I mainly burn with "full disk" mode, I'm guessing that Passkey doesn't have "merge" and "custom" options when selecting specific titles on the source dvd.

I'll keep mine unchecked but I'm not sure that I understand the purpose of the option. If I keep that option checked, what does DVDFab do with the layer change point vs un-checking the option and does that affect the quality of a "full disk" copy?

DVDFab Passkey is an on the fly decrypter, it will not compress to DVD-5 or anything except full disc to the HDD as a folder or an iso image.

Imgburn with DVDFab Passkey running in the background will copy the disc to an iso image along with a small MDS file that contains the layer break position. Burn the iso by double clicking on the MDS file and the dual layer +R disc will be just like the original. Never use -R dual layer discs for video use.

Neither of the programs do anything fancy with the structure.

Thanks for the Passkey info. I'll try that out soon.

DVDFab Copy update: I've burned about 15 discs with ImgBurn as the engine. When I get the intermittent "Task_1 failed! Error=100:" error in DVDFab, I just switch over to ImgBurn which I keep launched and it burns the same disc without error.

When DVDFab works ok (no "Task..." error) and burns with ImgBurn, it works great as it will launch a 2nd ImgBurn window and keeps my other ImgBurn window open as well.

Since ImgBurn provides an easy workaround for the DVDFab error, the only thing remaining is my curiousity as to the reason for that error. I guess some things are meant to be mysteries

The only logical reason for this is: "It Must Be Gremlins"
