Thanks for the MediaInfo, we really need the DVDFab internal log from one of those that did not play on the Roku. Click on the link in my sig that says "Tips for Posting Logs..." and follow those instructions. The setup info that 90312 provided should work every time.

I think this is the last log for the mp4 file that does not work on Roku 3. I am somewhat confused between DVDFab copy to blank DVD logs and ripping as a mp4 file to use with Roku 3. Below this log is a MediaInfo text file which is very short. I hope I have not mixed them up. I do not understand how to read these files. Sorry.

Ron, I just did a movie using the setup profile I gave you. It is the best one size fits all profile, it plays on my PS3, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and iPad. I'll attach the successful log:

You just went past my capabilities, because I cannot transfer a log into settings. I will keep plugging and try to figure it out. If not I can still copy to blank DVDs.
            Thanks for the effort,

I set it manually, the log is output only I didn't transfer it into the software. I'm just showing you what the log should look like when finished successfully.

I scanned two files with MediaInfo:

The first file, actually ripped with DVDFab 9, will play on my computer with Windows Media player. A similiar file will also play on my Roku 3 after copying it to a thumb drive. Copying took about 4 minutes to transfer to the thumb drive.

The second file, also ripped with DVDFab 9, and copied to a thumb drive will not play on my computer with Windows Media Player or Roku 3 with the thumb drive. Copying this file to the thumb drive took a very short time to transfer, less than a minute.

The question I have is what did I do differently to copy these two files to the thumb drive?

I have a total of ten movies on the thumb drive, all copied from the file ripped with DVDFab 9 from a DVD. Only two of these movies will work on my computer with Windows Media Player or my Roku 3. All ten of these movies will play with Windows Media Player using the file ripped with DVDFab 9 to my computer.

I do not think the problem is with DVDFab 9 in ripping the movie from the DVD. Something is happening when the file is copied to the thumb drive. Could codecs be a problem?

Any suggestions as to what is causing my problem? Thanks in advance,
                WolfpackRon.

File that will play on computer.

You have given us a lot to digest here Ron

                  When you say this:
All ten of these movies will play with Windows Media Player using the file ripped with DVDFab 9 to my computer.
do you mean that you put the movies on your PC using DVDFab Copy mode (instead of Ripper)?

At the bottom of post #22, the info for the file that will not play is cut off. Run that file through MediaInfo again and attach the text file output to a post using the Manage Attachments button.

No, I used the DVDFab Ripper to rip the movie file to the computer. I guess post #22 is my last long post. It was not cut off, that is all there was on the scan with MediaInfo after I cut and pasted the file from my computer to the thumb drive. Not sure what gives with this scenario. Thanks for your reply.

Wow, that is more than odd. I think it points to some issue during the file transfer, possibly a defective or overheated jump drive or a cached transfer that windows never completed.

                      I would suggest the following:
                      1) test the jump drive with several other fairly large (1GB or so) files and see if the transfers complete correctly. If the drive is noticeably hot after copying a big file, let it cool before doing another one.
                      2) If this is a cheap, no-name jump drive, replace it with something of known quality, like a SanDisc or something similar
                      3) Turn off write caching for this drive (Properties->Policies, select "Optimize for Quick Removal")
                      4) Until this is resolved, use copy->paste instead of cut so that your original file won't be deleted

                      I don't think it's a DVDFab issue.

You may have hit the nail on the head. That is a no name drive from Ebay. Even though they called it Toshiba, it has acted kinda funny. I will try another thumb drive. Thanks.

                            Case closed!
I used another Lexar thumb drive and it worked perfectly. I had previously tried a WD My Passport Ultra hard drive with no success. I use it to back up my computer and occasionally I have to "unlock" it to make it work. I will have to learn how to use it next.

I have been working on this problem for a long time. Thanks again.

How do I copy a DVD to an Ipad? I do not have a clue. Do I have to have an app to play a movie? Any suggestions?

You might try formatting that trick thumb drive as NTFS, by default they are FAT32 and the FAT may be pooched?

Formatting the thumb drive did make it work properly. I was not able to format using NTFS however. I had to redo it with FAt32.

Now that my files play on my Roku 3, will a movie containing cinavia protection on the original DVD work properly on the Roku 3?
