    todays effort!

OK, tried using the IMG burn Engine, and thought I had set it up using the Youtube tutorial, did look like it was overwriting the copy protection, and skipping the blank sectors etc, so was hopeful. Anyway, actually went all the way through and I thought it was looking good, but finished disk still will not load on my laptop, or on my home DVD player, although that at least sees it as a DVD this time, lol, (and laptop sees the writen disk as "Shutter Island")

Here is todays logs, sorry if there is a lot, and some not needed but no idea what to do really!
In three seperate bits as too long for a post otherwise.

    DVDFab 7.5.0.8 (2010/08/25 16:22:05)

    0m 01.46s: option dvd2dvd 1 dvd2mobile 1 bluray2bluray 1 bd2mobile 1 file2mobile 1 filemover 1
    0m 42.83s: detected dvd

    1m 15.22s: got discinfo
    1m 15.27s: pathplayer enabled
    1m 37.65s: got dvdinfo

I have since found that IMG appears to let you associate a drive with each type of media, and max write speed so have done that now, does anyone think it is worth another try or is there something else more major wrong?
    Thanks for your continuing help!

            shutter island

            hi

I would just like to say I have done a backup of shutter Island, with dvdfab and using image burn and had no problems. I also used a laptop but I never used the internal dvd burner. I always use a external dvd burner to read the discs and write them. I use verbatim dvd+r azo and never had a problem. I'm fairly new to this forum like yourself. And I must stress that people giving you advice here no exactly what they're talking about they have helped me so many times. Good media is the key I think.

OK, tried to set up dvdfab and img to read from the external drive, and write to it, but I am obviously missing something as can not get it to ignore the internal drive! Also, no where around here appears to sell those disks, I will look on line and try and get some! I seriously thought the logs would show the problem, as I said, I have used this machine, and those disks for 2 years with the old clone DVD program, and it works most times, been a couple of Disney ones it failed on, so did not bother with them, (my daughters) but would really like to find a way of copying anything, with one click as both these programs advertise they do, lol
At least now I know it is possible to copy this disk, and while I am off work determined to find the way to do it! If I need a new better burner, I will buy one, change disks, I will find them, but simply can not justify a new machine just to do it!

Please open ImgBurn and on the Tools menu, select "Filter driver load order", and click the copy to clipboard button. Please paste the results into a post. No need to mention other software by name, just say "other software". DVDFab has no problem with Shutter Island, this looks like some type of drive/IO problem. I agree with what others have said about the quality of the blank media, but if it has worked before it should work now. You should be able to select your external drive using the dropdown selector in the Source or Target areas near the top of the DVDFab window.

                  Target

                  hi

Forgot to mention earlier, when you start dvdfab you will see to boxes , target and source . My source box says please insert a dvd. The target box should come up with your internal dvd Drive. If you click the little triangle at the right of target box it should give you your two drives. One more thing I forgot to mention is if I starts dvdfab up to the main screen and then turn on my external dvd Drive it doesn't recognize it. So what I do is turn on my external dvd Drive before opening dvdfab and then it recognizes it. As for the DVD discs I don't know where you live, but Asda's are doing them now, or maplin. Hope this helps.

                    filter order

ok, done that, as below. also managed t set up to do everything from one drive. Will try it once more, then when the dizzyness wears of, (Diazepan and naprosyn) For my Back Pain, which is why I am off work and able to do this in the first place, I will pop to asda and look for the disks!
hopefully the below log will give an idea what is wrong!
May also buy a new Burner, any suggestions of a good one available in the UK?
                    Thanks again

well, thanks for the advice, I see what you mean about plugging in after.I get the same problem. what version of Fab are you using, mine is the very latest and was only installed yesterday, so, not sure if its a bug or my machine BUT, yes I get the box saying "Insert disk" and when I expand it, there is an empty box, can NOT select external drive as source!
Plodding on, as uninstalled the other copy prog, did manage to copy a music dvd today, very simple, so, still confused as why it does not do "Shutter Island" however, the copy was done on an Infinity" disk, as was only small and did not need to be DL!
So, perhaps its just THIS batch of Verbatim dl disks, as they have always worked in the past! Not many left now, so will try and get the ones advised next time!

                        hi

                        hi

This is how I backup a movie. The first thing I do is turn my external Drive on. Then open up dvdfab, then I click the little triangle next to the target box, you should see your external Drive click it so it stays in the target drive box. The source box says please insert a dvd. Insert the DVD into your external Drive and close the draw. You should get a box up about the region code click 2 . Then I click on the left side of DVD copy I click main movie. Then you get on the right side of the screen, all of the subtitles and above the audio I normally remove all of the subtitles on and clicking the box next to each subtitle. As for the audio I normally just leave the top one in place, then at the bottom near the quality button I click 5 which is single layer discs. 9 is dual layer discs. Then I click next and the bottom, a screen will come up and at the bottom of that I think it says next or start and I click that. And that is all I can tell you, it works for me . The version of dvdfab are used is 8005 hope this helps. PS you should never use your internal drive.
:) never look down on anyone unless you're looking down at them to help them up:)

You could be having issues with any number of things including GEARAspiWDM,
which may have been installed legitimately with any number of apps including iTunes and Norton.
It can also be a trojan of sorts installed via malware such as rootkill.

Also not sure what's up with tdcmdpst?
Do you have Toshiba Backup Utility installed?
You've probably never used it...I'd get rid of it...you can always reinstall.

I'm trying not to complicate things here, but we need to filter through all this stuff.
I agree with signals, this seems like some sort of I/O conflict.
Keep in mind there are 1000's of users that have backed up Shutter Island with Fab without any issues at all.

You are having trouble and yet blame the software and maintain you're not receiving help as noted in your post on another thread.
I beg to differ. You are, in fact, receiving help.

Recently, you have noted the failure of another copy software (a competitor to Fab) which was working previously. You are quick to blame this software as well.
I should think by now, you would look to your system as having the problem and not the 2 softwares that 1000's of customers currently use without problems.

Now, I'm not "blaming" you, but let's be fair.
Everyone here is volunteering their time. We're all just users, same as you, whether mods or not.
No one blames you for being frustrated, but let's not hold the people that are trying to help accountable for this.

As of now, you can use Fab to burn SL discs without any problems, but you cannot burn DL discs?
                          Is this correct?

I never heard back from you...can you play the files back from the hdd?
Please install and use v.8005 if not already doing so.
I understand you're in trial mode so you should have full functionality.

                          Please do the following:

Rip Shutter Island to a location on your hdd...use the hdd as your Target.
                          Do not compress.
Use only your external burner as suggested by tdk.
Playback with a software player such as VLC or Media Player Classic.
                          What happens?

If the files are intact, please open Img and use indepedently...as a standalone app.
Use one of your MKM 001 discs and attempt to burn these files with Img.

                          Is this successful?
Does the bkup play ok in a standalone player?

                            Thanks

                            Maineman,
                            thanks,
OK, story so far, been to get my back sorted this morning, and am now in hardly any pain so can throw the tranqs away and get on with things. been house bound for 7 days, so no my normal tolerant self it has to be said!
anyway, after a number of attempts, and help from call centres etc, I THINK my laptop is now virus and spyware free, no idea where they came from or how they got in past my ever vigilant AVG Internet security, though I was safe and secure, but evidently not! anyway, now I am up and about again, will get some better disks first, then work through what you suggested, at least the logs have provided some clues, more reasuring than the "fingerprints" theory, lol
yes, Toshiba backup came with the laptop, pre installed I suppose, will delete that now, also a load of other crud I have acquired and never use!
as a matter of interest, the other copy program have admitted that they do not currently support the copy protection used on Shutter Island, and if that had worked I would never have been looking for an alternative and found "dvdfab" so, it really is their fault,, they are working on it and authorised a refund enabling me to re invest in this new program, so all I have to do is get it to work

Thanks for your restrained and polite response, it really was what I was hoping for, hate conflict of any kind!

will report back when I have some news, may be a while as my band are playing tonight, and now my back is sorted, fingers crossed, I WILL be playing so that should cheer me up
:Dpart time musician, full time chancer, lol;)

                              You're welcome.
JMO, but AVG is not what it used to be. There are better freeware apps out there.
                              You should also consider running:

                              Malwarebytes (free version and excellent):

                              CCleaner (freeware and excellent):

Also, please defrag your hdd(s) with this excellent utility...Defraggler,
                              also from Piriform:
                              .

While we're at it, the other 2 utilities on the Piriforn website are excellent too.
                              Recuva and Speccy.
Nothing fancy with Speccy, but quick and easy
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

                                yep

                                Maineman,
well, I used malwarebytes in part of my cleanup, and Stopzilla, although I am not totally convinced that it does not place crap on specificaly for it to find, lol
Also used Hijack and waiting for AVG to report on the file it generated.
Used Crap cleaner, since well, when it was called that will look at the other two. The reason i used AVG was its support for multiple licenses, as have several laptops etc across my companies, and thought it easier to keep them all the same.
will look at the other programs you mention, just finished removing stuff and gained over 10gb of extra space, so will run CC now to cleanup any left over DLL`s etc.
Then off to buy new Burner and some disks!
So, Saturday will be back on the quest to copy the dreaded "Shutter Island" lol
:Dpart time musician, full time chancer, lol;)
