DVD to Mobile: A/V Sync Issues Reporting

I have only had trouble 2 times out of 30+.... (generic.avi.h264.audoicopy and generic.avi.divx.audiocopy).

And I was able to fix both of the ones I had trouble with as described in my earlier post.

Product definately works for me as long as you follow Gregiboys best practice DVD-Mobile.

Hello Karloff, thanks for the hint. I had been using the MP4 container and figured the container wouldn't make much of a difference. I kicked off a batch of encodings last night with generic.avi.h264.audiocopy. The only change I made to the default settings was to switch to 2 passes and bumped up the bitrate to 1600. The results were better than before. Of the 20 movies I encoded only 7 of them were out of synch. I double checked that each of the 7 played correctly in VLC.

Of the movies that were in synch, the resulting video was too grainy. I would expect that at a 1600 bitrate the video quality would be decent. Other open source options are able to produce videos with superior quality and much smaller files. Are there h264 settings that I have overlooked?

What resolution are you choosing?

I was not explicitly selecting a resolution. I went with the default for each movie. It looks like the default is the same resolution as the original. I did allow DVDFab to cut back the frame rate from 29 to 23.9. I am now re-encoding Gladiator with the same settings, but I explicitly selected the highest resolution.

There is something else going on. I get great results and use 1400 bitrate. Plus I hardly ever have problems with with Sync issues. Can you please post your system info? And are you converting straight from DVD or from your hard drvie?

I am not converting straight from DVD. I have followed GregiBoy's instructions, and have double checked a couple times to ensure I had not missed something.

Having an issue with a few titles, the most glaring of which are The Incredibles and The Emperors New Groove.

I am glad I am not the only one having this issue, but hope it's fixed soon. I'll post my info when I am back home.

But I converted Lakeview Terrace, SuperBad and ZombieLand to my iPod and to have on my laptop. All three, closer to the last quarter of the movie started with delays. Lakeview Terrace being the worse with almost 2 seconds that started about 55 minutes into the movie.

This was present on both my iPod Classic and computer through QuickTime and VLC which I downloaded after reading about here.

So apparently this problem goes alllllllll the way back to Feb 2008 (which would be DVDFab 4 if I'm not mistaken):


I'm sure we're dealing with different problems now, but I find it slightly amusing that i came across this while looking for something unrelated...

Seriously though - any ETAs on a fix? I found 2 more movies today that have this problem...

Progressive Audio Sync Issues

I have encountered this problem on 3 or 4 occasions now, three titles that I can remember are Nacho Libre, Get Smart and The Hog Father. From my experience I encounter the problem about 1 in every 40 to 50 DVD's so it is far from common.

The work round I use is this:

1. Create an image on the hard drive of the DVD using DVDFab DVD to DVD option.

2. Remove the protection on the image on the hard drive using FreeDVD.exe (available on DVDFab website ).

3. Create a .mpg file from the image using 'Video Redo TV Suite'
Video Redo is my preferred video editing software however I'm sure other video editing software could be used instead.

If you are creating the image using DVDFab DVD to DVD you should not need the additional step of removing the protection with FreeDVD, the files inside the ISO are already decrypted. ??
