Since you are converting to AVI then rip main movie only to hard drive as DVD9 or DVD5 which ever has no compression and then convert that rip to AVI. That process takes even less time and less compression resulting in a better picture quality for you

well i just ripped Old School and it had the option for DVD9 or DVD5. since theyre different sizes, i assumed the original disc was DVD9 and converting to DVD5 would be compressing the file. when i ripped Office Space it only had the option for DVD5...

Yes but you are probably doing Full Disc which takes longer than if you was to do Main Movie. AVI files is just main movie so no need to rip entire disc to computer when all you need is main movie and you are correct about the DVD9 or DVD5 size

ok, ill give that a try. thats just the movie and audio, correct? my first rip created a file that added captions to the movie. simply deleting that file removed the captions. im guessing i wont have to bother with this by just ripping the issue?

also, what would you suggest as a good file size for a quality movie on a 40" 1080p HDTV? i know this isnt DVD quality nor even close to bluray, but i just am looking for something that wont look like complete garbage on my TV. i dont have the cord to hook it up yet though, so i cant simply test it out. i was just wondering if theres some kind of ballpark range of file sizes that would suffice.

the only mobile format I do at the moment is PSP and I'm unsure about a file size for good quality for AVI but I do know the 2 pass gives better quality output but if you rip just main movie with no captions then I think you not have them on the AVI conversion but not sure

As AGJ suggested, you can probably find much of the basic information you need to be able to answer questions efficiently in the DVDFab Tutorial or by reading in the forum itself.

                Please follow GregiBoys .

This will save you a lot of time. In your last post you were looking for an example to get the best results. Well at the end of the Best Practices thread you will see a GREAT example.

Please use DVD to DVD and make the Target your hard drive and use Main Movie. Choose the DVD9 or DVD5 whichever the source is. If it is compressing (quality <> 100%) change to DVD9...

This way you will be using DVDFAb at the fastest possible rate that your DVD and computer can handle.

Once that is done use DVD to Mobile. This option takes a lot longer because you are changing the format of the output from that of the source.

If you notice the DVD - DVD option uses Megabytes per second. Well DVD to Mobile uses Frames per Second. The faster your computer the faster this process will be performed.

If you try to use DVD to Mobile straight from the DVD skipping saving it to the hard drive first you will be putting your DVD drive under a lot of wear and tear because how long it will take.

Again please read the post :.
