UHD Ripper Help this UHD noob get started.

I know I am missing something simple, but I am not sure where to start. I have a few UHD 4K discs in my library that I would like to rip. The drives I have are on the friendly list but when I put a 4K disc in them it never shows up in Windows or DVDFab. Any suggestions? Included is a screenshot of the drive update tool. It shows my drives as friendly… Anyway any help would be appreciated, thank you.

does your drive show up in windows or is it just discs ??
try uninstalling the drive, restart your computer and let windows reinstall the drive
    then retry your UHD discs.

Your drive is just a Blu-Ray burner. It can only play and burn normal blu-ray disc, not 4K discs. You have to have a drive that supportd 4K play back. Here is what my 4K drive looks like. My other blu-ray drives also show friendly??, but of course will not play a 4k disc. hope that helps.

Even though the model of my drive shows up on the supported drive list? (Asus BW-16D1HT)? Shows BDXL support.

Just for my sanity… How do you tell if the drive is too old? Is it the firmware that it has? I'm just curious, I've got newer drives of the same model that I have not installed yet. I was waiting for one of these drives to burnout before I installed another.

There are several different ‘flavors’ of drive with that model number. Not all can read UHD discs. Search eBay for “UHD Friendly” and look through the results for one that says it has been tested with DVDFab.

I went to Asus' website and they have a firmware upgrade for this drive to 3.01 (?) I know upgrading firmware is not a good idea, but would it hurt anything to try? (I figure either way the drive won't work as it is, so what have I got to lose)

if you update your drive from 1.xx to 3.xx you will brick it the official asus tool probably wont let you but i wouldn't try it
