I think it has to do with setting the BOOK-TYPE to ROM on the PLEXTOR..... but I can't figure out how to do that..... I tried what he said earlier.... but it will only give me an INVALID COMMAND OPERATION CODE...... any more help guys? Is it not normal where you cant set the book-type directly on your drive to ROM?
I don't believe this drive has bitsetting capable firmware.
There's really nothing but crappy support from Plextor for this drive.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure this is a LiteOn.
The problem becomes if you crossflash this drive to something other than "official" plextor firmware, you'll void the warranty.
So....if something goes irreversibly wrong...you've got yourself an expensive paperweight...

I don't think it's the booktype, I did look up the specs and that player should have no problems with that media which as GregiBoy pointed out when you tested the small 10 minute file with a memorex drive, which makes me wonder if that drive ever reached max burning speed which is why I keep asking about the write speed selected (sorry by the way, you're in good hands with Maineman and gregiBoy)

A lesson learned today..... according to that article you cannot change the book-type on this Plextor Drive according to what I read.

That doesn't sound good. I wonder if ImgBurn would do it anyway. Or maybe there is some hacked forimware for that drive that would allow it.

Yeah, I've looked around and there's nothing out there for firmware support at all..

The OP could probably use LtnFW....a flash utility for LiteOn based ODDs and then use firmware for a LiteOn iHAS122, which is what I think this drive is.
I suppose he could go all the way back to use dos-based mtkflash, but you have to be comfortable with this stuff.

I'm not about to recommend something that could go from bad to worse in a hurry.

It's too bad Plextor uses rebadged drives, charges more than it has a right to and then drops the ball on any customer support.
They oughta be ashamed of themselves.

This drive as it sits, does not support bitsetting.
I'm sure that it's capable...if you can crossflash it.
But then your warranty is null and void and all bets are off.

Isn't there some way that he can take it back to the ORIGINAL Plextor firmware that was on it?

Not used to Plextor but a lot of other drives that I have had always had an option to save the existing firmware when using the firmware upgrade utility.

                                Hi again jayh1969.

Here's what I'd try next given the situation.
Go out to BestBuy, etc., and buy some Verbatim -R 16X DVDs.
                                Burn 'em at 8X - 12X (I'd go with 8X for starters)

I think this'll work just fine and you'll avoid completely, the issue with +R media and bitsetting.
Hopefully the POS firmware that Plextor provided you with can handle -R media. It can't handle +R, so there not much left...lol
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
