Issues with multiple optical drives and DVDFab

Hi. I have three optical drives on a win 7 64 machine, two sata and one usb3. I wish to copy from two or all three of them to hdd at the same time but DVDFab makes that difficult (unless I am doing something wrong).

If I put disks in two of the optical drives then start DVDFab it scans both drives and I can then select which drive I want to use. Fair enough, but that takes some time. The issue is if I then start another instance of DVDFab it again scans both drives even if the first instance is already copying from one of the drives. The problem multiplies if I try to run three instances of DVDFab.

I would rather have DVDFab not read optical drives AT ALL when it starts until I tell it to, and I want to tell it which drive I want it to read.

I remember reading some time ago a comment by one of the staff here that they recognized that DVDFab could use some improvement in handling multiple optical drives but I can neither find that post again nor can I see any improvement being made (I have both 8 and 9 installed).

It's frustrating and I'm hoping that someone here can shed some light on the issue. Thanks.

Also, to follow up, if I'm running two instances of DVDFab and one of them ends, it immediately starts trying to scan the other optical drive once I click "finish" even though the other instance is currently copying from that drive. I don't want it to do that.

      Hey Lakemirror,

I have the same issue and I hope this get's noticed one day.

This has been an endless problem with DVDFab through all the versions.
I actually use other software for bulk ripping 6 BD's and 3 DVD's drives in one box, because u set it to a drive and it stays on it and and doesnt detect anything other than what goes IN that drive.

I cant figure out for the life of me why DVDfab has not fixed this issue. It is the MAIN failure in DVDfab.

Hey greebo, look at the attached screen capture. It shows DVDfab set up with three instances, each with its own desktop icon, that only look at one drive each. Maybe you and lakemirror should spend a little more time learning to use the product before you criticize it.

Mind telling us how you accomplished that? I looked at all the options and did not see anything that would allow us to limit dvdfab to a specific dvd drive.

Go here and and exclude all drives but the one you want for that install:

I can't get that to work very well. I opened DVDFab 9 and deselected both drives in the Drives tab, then saved and exited the program. Then I started another instance, went to Drive and selected just one of the drives. It gave me the message "Must restart dvdfab", which it did and then read the disk that is in the selected drive. After that finished reading I created a second instance of DVDFab, which also tried to read the same drive as the first instance.

How do I get this to work correctly? Do I need a separate installation of DVDFab for each drive, such as install one instance in c:\Program Files\DVDFab 9 and a second instance in C:\Program Files\DVDFab 9(1) ?

It would be helpful if someone would take the time to write up a comprehensive tutorial on how to do this

For the test I made, I used a standalone install of DVDFab for each drive. Put each one in a different folder so the Settings for drive preferences can be saved individually. It took like 5 minutes to set up, longer than that to clean it up and get back to normal. If you need a step-by-step, I can lay it out. I named the folders after the drives letters, E:, X: and Y:.

Thanks for the info. I think I have it working pretty well now -- I just had to install another instance into another folder then uncheck the option to auto run dvdfab when I insert a disk. Now each instance of dvdfab has it's own Drive set the way I want them.
