having issues since migrating to Windows 7

I too am having issues since migrating to Windows 7. I performed a clean install of Windows & and havent been able to ripp a DVD since(over 3 months) Also, I run a virtual XP and still no success with DVDFAb there as well.

The DVD continuously scans but never opens and at times blows away my DVD player from (MyComputer), nothing there.

Ive updated the DVD firmware to the lastest most recent version and I have tried every version 3 months back with the same results.

I already know to install as ADMIN and I tried running as ADMIN also, but to no avail .?!?
Serves me right for having faith to invest in a 3 year license.

Please assist me as to restore my faith in your product.

Sorry you are having trouble BIG. Fab is working well for many with Win7, so it is probably a setting somewhere. Please attach the log files (all of them) to a post so we can see if anything is happening there.

As signals suggested, there's something else afoot here.
There are many of us using Fab and Win7 without issues.
I myself, installed Win7 Pro, 64-bit and the same day, installed Fab 6, never experienced problems and never took any special steps.

As for XP Pro, it is a very stable OS and it has been happily married to Fab on a number of my rigs since '04...again without issue.

We'd be happy to try and assist you, but we need additional details

        Windows 7 64 bit

I am starting to think there are some issues with DvdFab and Windows 7 64 bit. I haven't had any problems ripping or encoding Blu Rays but I can not get DvdFab to recognize my nvidia CUDA card for GPU acceleration. I know it works because I am getting 3 to 3.5 times performance increase for h264 encoding in other applications. Other members have gotten their similar cards to work and the only major difference I see is they are running XP 32 bit. My chipset info is posted in the GPU acceleration thread.

Hmmm, I took a look at your post in the GPU Acceleration - settings thread.
          Darn strange.
I don't have any BR hardware, but my graphics card is lit right up.
          I just can't test it...go figure.

Thanks for taking a peep. I don't get it either. The GPU CUDA processing screams with other applications but DvdFab seems to think it's not CUDA supported.

              GPU acceleration

I am not a computer geek but with a little searching I think I am beginning to crack open this mysterious DvdFab GPU accelertion issue as it relates to me. Apparently my graphics card, an nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX, does h264 encoding but cannot do h264 decoding. Now that I look at the DvdFab GPU acceleration menu the switches relate to video decoding not encoding. It seems decoding would be for video playback which I have no issue with using the CPU in various players. Where processing power is needed is in the encoding process. Can someone tell me if DvdFab is using GPU acceleration for avchd/h264 encoding? Is this why some members see no difference is their encoding times with GPU acceleration enabled versus just using the main CPU. BTW, I like the product and paid for a lifetime Blu Ray to Blu Ray license.

If you are just migrating to Windows 7 from XP It could be a controller setting in BIOS. When I first started using Vista I had alot of trouble with my optical drives. Did some research and turns out AHCI was the problem. I had 1 sata optical and 1ide optical and my sata would never work right. Under MCP storage I had options for IDE,AHCI and RAID. AHCI is advanced hardware configuration interface and was new for VISTA and continued to Win7. I don't know the case for Win 7 but in Vista if it wasn't selected in BIOS during install you had to edit the registry and force it afterwards. I had advance warning for Win7 so did the install accordingly. Any how after I forced the AHCI driver into action all my drive problems went away. It may be worth looking into.

Actually , this was a clean install. Would that still apply?

                          Sure, it could.
It's recommended that you install the AHCI drivers very early during the install of win7. I believe the prompt will occur when you choose the install location.
While many users are running AHCI without problems, many are not.
I have a new build as of late Oct '09 with win7 64-bit and I had nothing but problems trying to install AHCI drivers. In disgust, I loaded the good ol' IDE drivers and my rig is merrily screaming along.

I would definitely check out your bios. You can certainly fool with the IDE and ACHI configurations. If you run into trouble, you can always return to your previous configuration or default settings.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

You don't need to install drivers for AHCI during install of Win 7 Microsoft has it's own just enable in BIOS and all should go well and I need to correct myself AHCI is advanced host controller interface.

                              Hi Johan,

I have no doubt that what you said is correct...some of the time, but as this stuff goes, AHCI drivers seem a bit problematic.
And you're absolutely correct in stating that Win7 does have native AHCI drivers.

Anyway, I was not able to get my system to boot into windoz with AHCI drivers and Win7 64-bit.
This, after following precisely, my motherboard install instructions which insisted that I install the AHCI drivers during the windoz install.
I spent awhile googling this and even talked to tech support when I was doing a new build last Oct.
                              Alas, no luck.

Maybe I'll give the editing the registry solution a try.
However, I'm reminded of some advice I often give others,
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I apologize if I gave the impression your advice was wrong.
I think the OP would be wise to take a look in his bios.
