    Error 116 (again)

Hi guys, I have the same problem as a poster a few threads down, and I read his post but did not feel satisfied with the solution (buying verbatim discs), because I bought a 50-pack of Amazon Basic dual layer DVDs, and have already successfully ripped about 30 of them. However, the last 5 I have attempted to rip have failed due to Error 116. I have tried ripping 3 different movies, and usually what I do is rip the movie to my HD first, and then from there, I rip it to the DVD.

I attached an image of a .jpg file of the program when the error happened last ... I was originally running a previous verison (I think 6.0.something, but I updated to the newest version, 6.2.1.8, for this last time, and it still did not work).

Thanks for any feedback in advance.

So you get this error when you rip and save the DVD to HDD? Or do you get this error when you burn to the DVD? Read and post the information listed below

    Help Us Help You

If you are posting about an operational problem with one of the DVDFab products, you will improve the speed and accuracy of the response by providing some information in the very first post that will probably be needed.

First, make note of any error codes or messages that appear in popup boxes and put them in your post. Information on error codes that appear in the DVDFab UI are captured in one of the logs we request below.

DVDFab keeps logs of its activities that supply basic system information and can help pinpoint where and when an error happened and help pinpoint the cause. The default location for these logs on most Windows systems is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

The logs are simple text files that can be opened with Windows Notepad if you want to read them. If the size exceeds the forum’s attachment size limit, you may need to delete older entries or copy and paste the relevant ones into a new file. The log files can be attached to a post using the "Manage Attachments" button below the editing box.

dvdfab_burn_vso.log Attach for all problems. The entries are time stamped with the most recent at the top.

dvdfab_burn_imgburn.log Attach if you have ImgBurn set as the burning engine and the problem concerns disc burning. Time stamped with the most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_process.log Attach if DVDFab crashes and the crash report window does not come up or complete correctly or if internal error codes appear in the DVDFab window (“Task Failed…”). Time stamped, most recent at the bottom.

dvdfab_internal.log Attach for all problems. Time stamped, most recent at the bottom. Please edit to include only the most recent or relevant log session.

    Other Information:

Depending on the nature of the problem, it can help to know:
If this happens with all discs or just one
    Your operating system/CPU/memory configuration
If you are using external hard drives or optical drives
If you have made any recent changes to your OS or system hardware
If you have other DVD or BD software installed, particularly if recently added.

Posts with all the requested information will be answered first.

It gives the error message during the burning process (from the HD to the DVD) ... it seems like when it is going from the first layer to the second layer, but I am not knowledgeable enough about that stuff to know ... I did attach the picture of the program as I did not know about the logs, but here they are:

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------
      dvdfab_process.log

17:54:14: Burn DVD folder (C:\Users\Michael\Desktop\FullDisc\Beverly Hills Cop\) started
      18:10:44: Task_2 failed! Error=116

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
do you need any of the other ones or just this one?

Post the failed burn log so we can see what type DVD burner is being used and if it needs a firmware update ect.

From what I can find the firmware is up to date. You might try d/ling ImgBurn (it's free, follow the link in my sig and watch Troy512's video on how to set it up) but my guess is it's your optical drive. Get a external type drive because those slimtype drives usually don't last long in the hi heat enviroment of a laptop.

Alright, thanks man ... one more question if you don't mind ... if it is my optical drive, and my laptop is still under warranty (I got in August w/ a 1 yr warranty), do you know if that'd be covered - I know this really isn't the right place to ask this so if you don't know no worries, you probably have no way of knowing, haha.

You're right I have no way of knowing BUT I would think it would be covered.
Test with ImgBurn first and then if no joy try a good external drive or a optical drive for a desktop in an external enclosure. ImgBurn will have better luck with cheaper blank media but still is no guarantee.

The burn log does not even show a burn attempt. Look through the log by date and find one of the failures and post that. Please post in the DVD to DVD forum next time if the problem involves DVDs.

Hi, thanks a lot for the help! It was actually probably just a problem with the VSO Engine because when I installed the ImgBurn and went to the options to burn using that, I did not see the VSO Engine listed (which is weird because I have successfully ripped countless movies) ... anyways, on the first try using the ImgBurn software it worked perfectly!

Haha, well actually it worked that first time but now the second try didn't work so not entirely sure what the problem is ... I was thinking the discs but what perplexes me is that I had no problems with the exact same discs for so long.

Post the ImgBurnh log from the one that did not work. Could be the drive or the media.
