Man with the Golden Gun (1974) Problem

I have also been having problems duplicating The Man with the Golden Gun 1974 version of the DVD, but it sounds a little different from the one described above. After the original is copied, and I insert a blank, DVDFab detects the blank, then reports "Failed to burn DVD. Do you want to burn again?" with no further comments or messages. I retried it with PP off, but with the same result.

I took that same original and copied it using DVDShrink32 without any problems. My log file snippets follow.

So, this last log file is saying that I need to use a DL blank, but I've not encountered this issue with any other original or blank. The blanks I'm using are Sony; never had a problem with them until now. Thoughts?

I have moved your post to a new thread since it is really not related to the problem in the old thread you resurrected. Try it with the current version of DVDFab. If the output files are actually the size reported in the log, they are too large for a DVD-5.

Nope...same thing. It's interesting that dvdfab_burn_vso.log doesn't show the updated (7.0.8.0) version; probably because nothing got burned?

The log shows the correct (7.0.8.0) version number on a test burn I made and it should on yours too. Something may not have installed or updated correctly if your DVDFab window border shows 7.0.8.0. Check to see what your value is for DVD-5 size in Settings. Try reducing it to 4300MB. You might also try re-installling v7.0.8.0.

The border does indeed show 7.0.8.0. The DVD-5 size is set to 4300MB by default. I re-installed the program. Exactly the same failure. The dvdfab_process.log file still did not update. This time, however, instead of answering "No" I answered "Yes" to the little window that asked whether I wanted to try again, and that seemed to force the dvdfab_process.log file to update. It's also interesting that dvdfab_burn_vso.log was only updated with two lines.

The timestamps on the process log don't match the VSO burn log (which indicates everything worked correctly, twice). Try installing ImgBurn and using that to burn a VIDEO_TS folder that you make with DVDFab. This is one of the few Bond titles that I don't have, so no way to test it. I'll see if I can find it locally.

I can try that tomorrow. In the mean time, let me say that I have burned several other Bond titles, including GoldenEye, Live and Let Die, Tomorrow Never Dies, Moonraker, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, and For Your Eyes Only.

Here is what I found. DVDFab produced an output older that was 4461.7MB (it was set for 4464, my default value). I made this into an image file with ImgBurn, which turned out to be 4.357GB. This pretty much fills up a DVD-5 blank disc with a little to spare. A DVD-5 holds 4.37GB, not the 4.7 that is on the wrapper. So it should fit with no problem, especially if you had it set for 4300MB as the DVD-5 size. The copy I found was old, released in 2000. I did not copy the non-video files (JACKET_P folder, 285k). I would suggest double checking your settings and trying again with ImgBurn.

tredspane you might want to try lowering the burn speed to 4x as you are using 8x and that max speed for the sony blank media you using. I assume this is a laptop as well you are using?

It is indeed a laptop, but what difference will it make to lower the burn speed?

ImgBurn reports that there is not enough room on the target disk to copy the image. Well, the image is made from a DL disk, so the blank is probably half the size it needs to be. Is there a setting I might have missed? That's what I like about DVDFab...it does this automatically for me. And as I had said previously, this movie copied perfectly with DVD Shrink 3.2. Also, as you can see, ImgBurn slowed my burn rate to 3.3X for me.

                        ImgBurn log follows:

                        I 22:30:46 ImgBurn Version 2.5.1.0 started!

Well, I took your advice and lowered the write speed to 4X...same (failed) result. What to try next?

                            What does "Task_1 Error=105" mean?
Task_1 Error 105 means there is an unexpected packet in VOB file, which means the disc is dirty or scratched. Please clean it firstly and then try Full Disc mode to see the result.

This is what the FAQ says the error code means on the DVDFab website. Have you tried cleaning the DVD? or checking if it has any scratches on it?

Also the laptop drive only has a max burn speed of 8x and the blank media you using has max burn speed of 16x I beleive. If you burn at max on laptop it wil create more problems for the back up process and cause extra heat that not wanted
