Could be, Auto is the default. Try ASPI again.

I created an account for my kids, but mine is the main one with administrator rights. In the users folder I have 4 folders: Owner, Everyone Else, Public, and Mcx1-OWNER-PC. The last one is dehighlighted (?) and when I click on it I'm told I don't have permission to access the folder, but I can click continue to gain permanent access.

I changed it to ASPI again and it crashed, right when it was starting to scan media. I'm going to have to reinstall the program since it won't let me in to change it back.

ETA: Just to be clear, when Read was set to Auto, I was able to run the program through the first process, it crashed when getting ready for the second process. When I changed Read back to ASPI I had to restart the program to effectuate the change, it crashed as soon as the program reopened.

I have to go run some errands, will check back in when I return. I appreciate the help!

Does it crash if you start it with no discs in any optical drive?

So we still have no answers as to why it crashes when the drive opens to put in the blank dvd....... I have not tried in a while on this computer, was using it on my old computer.

                  I'm sad.

Today I downloaded the latest version with high hopes. Popped in my Thor DVD and attempted to make my backup copy. FAIL.

I am disappointed that there has been no communication here, since I (and others) are paying customers that are unable to use the product properly.

On a high note, I was able to use my computer to make a copy of my Thor disk, but I had to use an external disk drive to burn.

I have a brand new Dell inspiron 17R running Windows 7 HP as well and mine BSOD right at the finish point for burning the copied disc. I have same dump and x files and it occurs EVERY time. Same IRQL error as well and I have tried 8105 and the newest 8120.

Please help. I also can't open the dump or x file. But Signals, have they tried it at the office on a new 7 Home Premium laptop?

                        fofiddyracer,

What antivirus do you have? I have Webroot on one computer and Avast on my other two. The older HP has Avast and it works just fine, but the two newer laptops (all with Windows 7 Home Premium) crash at the point of burning the disk.

The reason I ask is that I read on another thread that this problem was being dismissed as a problem with McAfee.

I do have McAfee. I have it on my desktop, but it is on Vista.

The problem is not being dismissed, it just can't be duplicated. The test bed equipment varies, but I doubt it includes a specific laptop. There is clearly a problem of some sort, related to the way DVDFab talks to the optical drives for burning. It might be helpful if all of you experiencing this could post the model and bus type (IDE, SATA, USB eSATA etc.) of the drive you are using. There is a common factor in there somewhere.

The DVDFab office is closed until Monday morning Beijing time, Sunday evening US time.
